Lancaster Blvd. Marceau is on a world tour, traveling from Paris through the United States and on to Hong Kong, Korea and Greece. Strassburg, city (1990 pop. 255,931), capital of Bas-Rhin dept., NE France, on the Ill River near its junction with the Rhine. It is the intellectual and commercial capital of Alsace., France, Marceau's interest in the art of mime began at an early age when he imitated with gestures anything that caught his imagination. He found inspiration in the art of silent screen stars Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy. In 1947, he created his alter-ego, Bip the clown. In addition to performing, Marceau has written several children's books, poetry and illustrations. He has his own mime company with which he has traveled the world. In April 2002, he served as goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Second World Assembly on Aging, held in Madrid, Spain. Marceau has appeared in several movies, many of which are now available on video, such as ``The Art of Silence,'' ``A Fable,'' ``Barbarella,'' ``Silent Movie,'' and ``Joseph's Gift.''
