Mozart wrote ``Requiem'' while ill, and died before completing more than a rough sketch of the later movements. Competed by Mozart's protege, Sussmayer, ``Requiem'' premiered in December 1792, a year after Mozart's death, as part of a tribute concert. Soloists for the chorale performance will be Leslie Garman, Delia Curiel, Best and Wally Purdy. ``Mozart's 'Requiem' is equally exciting for performer and listener alike,'' Pocock said. ``Although Mozart began the work as a commission, it gained personal inspiration as he became gravely ill.'' The Santa Clarita Master Chorale is an all-volunteer chorus, now 53 voices strong, dedicated to fostering a love of fine choral music.
