MAST named owner's rep for $700m Newark project.

In one of its most significant assignments to date, the Newark Downtown Core Redevelopment Corporation (NDCRC) has named MAST Construction Services, Inc. as owner's representative for the $700-million, 24-acre massive redevelopment project now underway in Newark, New Jersey.

The high-profile project, which broke ground less than a year ago, calls for the construction of a brand new $310 million, 700,000 s/f arena.

The 18,000-seat stadium will serve as home to the New Jersey Devils hockey team upon its completion in October 2007, as well as an entertainment and sports venue, meeting and conference facility and convention center. It will also boast a signature 300-room hotel.

Other components of the redevelopment include a retail complex, office space, a 40-story residential tower, numerous lower-level parking spaces and several beautiful parks and public plazas. Road realignments will be required to ensure proper traffic flow.

As owner's representative, MAST is responsible for coordinating all efforts between private entities and the public sector, managing acquisitions and condemnations, and ensuring that all work is completed on time and within the predetermined budget.

MAST Construction will also manage all future redevelopment efforts on behalf of the NDCRC, a group formed by the City of Newark to oversee and administer the redevelopment plan, including a bridge that will connect New Jersey Transit to the new redevelopment area through a railway.

In addition to Domuracki, MAST vice president Richard A. Brown and project manager Jim Napolitano serve as members of the project team.

Station Plaza Newark Downtown Core Urban Renewal Co., LLC and Lafayette Broad, LLC serve as redevelopers for the project.
