MAST cooks up Jersey City project.

Concluding yet another project as part of the Hudson County Community College master plan, MAST Construction Services, Inc. recently put the finishes touches on Phase I of the schools' new Culinary Arts Institute and Conference Center in Jersey City, N.J.

MAST, which served as construction manager, built the $25 million Georgian Revival-style building on the College's Journal Square campus. According to MAST project executive Richard A. Brown, the 73,000 s/f, five-story space, "will accommodate the College's fast-growing Culinary Arts and Hospitality programs, expanding its program from 250 to 500 students."

The new building houses eight kitchens, including production and line kitchens, bakery, hot foods, garde manger, pastry/finishing and an ice carving/butchery area.

A state-of-the-art conference center and 300-person banquet hall were also constructed, along with seven general classrooms, facility offices and adjunct workspaces. Rivardo, Schnitzer & Capazzi served as architect for the project.
