MASLAND INDUSTRIES NAMES NEW BOARD MEMBERS

 CARLISLE, Pa., Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Masland Industries has named three additional outside directors to its board following the company's recent reorganization and public offering of common stock.
 Additions include Paul W. Farris, Landmark Communications professor of business administration at the Darden School, University of Virginia; Clinton D. Lauer, president of Lauer & Associates, a consultant to automotive suppliers; and Lanty L. Smith, chairman of the board of directors and chief executive officer of Precision Fabrics Group, Inc.
 Farris teaches marketing management and marketing strategy at the Darden School. He has worked in product management for Unilever and as a consultant for many companies in the United States, Europe and Asia. His research has focused on the assessment of marketing costs and productivity. He also has authored numerous articles appearing in management, marketing, advertising and retailing journals, including Harvard Business Review.
 Farris holds a bachelor's degree in business economics from the University of Missouri, an M.B.A. from the University of Washington, and a D.B.A. from Harvard University.
 Lauer was employed by Ford Motor Company from 1956 through his retirement in 1992 when he founded Lauer & Associates. With Ford, he served in a number of managerial purchasing positions, including vice president, Purchasing and Supply; and executive director of Production Purchasing for Ford North American Automotive Operations. During his last years at Ford and as a consultant, he has worked closely with automotive suppliers to assist them in raising their quality capabilities and their productivity to world-class levels.
 A Joliet, Ill., native, Lauer is a graduate of the University of Illinois and earned a master's degree in Industrial Management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
 Smith has been chairman of Precision Fabrics, a leading manufacturer of specification textile products, located in Greensboro, N.C., since 1988. Previously, he served in various positions in Burlington Industries, Inc., including president.
 Smith is chairman of the board of directors of The Greenwood Corp., Inc., Raleigh, N.C., which operates the largest franchise business of Manpower Temporary Services. He also is a member of the board of directors and executive committee of First Union Corporation. A native of Sherrodsville, Ohio, Smith is an honors mathematics graduate of Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio, and earned a law degree with honors from Duke University.
 Continuing to serve on the board is Paul B. Edgerley. Edgerley is a managing director of Bain Capital, which he joined in 1988. Previously, he spent five years at Bain & Company, where he consulted on the healthcare, information services, retail and automobile service industries. Prior to his tenure at Bain & Company, he worked for Peat Marwick & Company as an audit manager. He received his M.B.A. with distinction from Harvard Business School, and he is a certified public accountant. e?arned his bachelor of science degree from Kansas State University.
 Also serving on Masland's board of directors is William J. Branch, chairman and chief executive officer of Masland since 1991 and


previously president of the company and its predecessor since 1986. He has served in various positions with Masland since 1970.
