MARVEL PUBLISHES FIRST QUARTERLY REPORT AS COMIC BOOK; STARS THE
HULK AND SPIDER-MAN AS CORPORATE SPOKESPERSONS
NEW YORK, Dec. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Marvel Entertainment Group, Inc. (NYSE: MRV) has published its first quarterly report to shareholders as a four-page, color comic book starring The Incredible Hulk and The Amazing Spider-Man. This is believed to be the first time such a report has been published in comic book form. Shareholders should begin receiving it this week.
"Things have sure changed around here!" says The Hulk, bursting at the seams in a business suit. "Now that we're a public company, we have to tell everybody how well we did." And he does: for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 1991, net income increased 213 percent to $6.7 million or $0.55 per share, and net revenues increased 59 percent to 38.3 million.
"Quit bragging to the shareholders, Hulk, and let's go to a comic book store!" quips Spider-Man, who's seen on the cover swinging over the trading floor of the New York Stock Exchange with The Wall Street Journal tucked under his arm in a scene reminiscent of the day Marvel went public in July.
"It took us a little extra work to get this done," said Marvel President Terry Stewart, "but we wanted to do it right. When you think about it, it really shouldn't be much of a surprise. This is what we're all about."
The comic was produced by a team of industry professionals. The cover was drawn and inked by John Romita, Sr., interior art was drawn by Scott McDaniel and inked by Jimmy Palmiotti, coloring was by George Roussos, lettering by Ken Lopez, and editing by Glenn Herdling.
Marvel Entertainment Group, Inc. is the largest creator and publisher of comic books and other illustrated action and adventure material in North America. The aggregate circulation for the last six months of 1990 for Marvel comic book exceeded 8.5 million copies per month.
