MARTIN MARIETTA AWARDED ARMY FUNDING FOR SYSTEMS DELIVERY

BETHESDA, Md., Oct. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Army has awarded Martin Marietta Corporation (NYSE: ML) an additional $58.02 million for delivery of 63 helicopter night vision systems to the Army and several international customers, including Greece, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt.
The funding represents completion of negotiations on an Army contract originally awarded in 1992 for TADS/PNVS targeting and navigation systems for the AH-64 Apache helicopter. Together with previous funding of $68.6 million, total value of the definitized contract exceeds $126 million.
TADS/PNVS (Target Acquisition Designation Sight/Pilot Night Vision Sensor) enables Apache pilots to fly at very low altitudes in total darkness and poor weather and to locate and attack ground targets at standoff ranges.
Since production began in 1983, Martin Marietta has built more than 820 TADS/PNVS systems for U.S. and foreign customers under contracts totaling more than $2 billion.
Additional international orders could extend deliveries beyond the year 2000 and Martin Marietta has proposed technological enhancements to the system that would further improve TADS/PNVS reliability, maintainability and performance.
TADS/PNVS is a product of Martin Marietta Electronics & Missiles, located in Orlando, Fla., a leading developer of advanced combat systems for the armed forces. Electronics & Missiles is an operating unit of the corporation's Electronics Group, headquartered in Bethesda.
