When you are confident in your movements, there is no need to fight.''

Dae Shik Yin, a grandmaster of tae kwon do, instructor David Reynolds and first-degree black belts Wood, Tommy Nguyen and Jimmy Nguyen demonstrated their skills at the first Pan-American Martial Arts Masters for World Peace Conference.

The conference, held Dec. 16-21 in Montevideo, Uruguay, was a gathering of martial arts masters from 33 nations. The Yin demonstration team was invited to the conference to represent the United States United States, officially United States of America, republic (2005 est. pop. 295,734,000), 3,539,227 sq mi (9,166,598 sq km), North America. The United States is the world's third largest country in population and the fourth largest country in area. .

The team spent five days in Uruguay, making a favorable impression with the masters at its Dec. 20 performance.

``We were the only team that did jumping and turning kicks,'' said Reynolds, 25, a tae kwon do instructor of 7 years. ``They were impressed with the flying kicks.''

Brothers Jimmy, 13, and Tommy Nguyen, 15, of Palmdale started learning tae kwon do three years ago.

``I got into it mostly for self-defense,'' Tommy Nguyen said. ``Jimmy got into it mostly because of Hollywood.''

``I like the Ninja Turtles and Jean Claude Van Damme,'' Jimmy Nguyen said.

The Uruguay demonstration included Jimmy Nguyen doing a triple kick and Tommy Nguyen jumping over eight people and breaking a board with a kick at the end of the jump.

``We've been practicing together for a couple of years,'' Wood said. ``We only had a week's notice for this. It was the best of what we usually do.''

An Argentine martial arts expert put on an impressive show. He broke eight bottles, then stood on the glass shards and did a back kick to break a brick.
