Martek Biosciences Corporation (NASDAQ: MATK), Colombia, Md., has announced that its nutritional oils have been introduced in a premium term infant formula in the Philippines and Saudi Arabia. Martek's oils have been already introduced in over 60 countries primarily in pre-term infant formula. During the past 24 months, Martek's licensees have introduced premium term infant formula in 7 additional countries.

Martek's nutritional oils containing docosahexaenoic acid ("DHA") and arachidonic acid ("ARA") oils are vegetable oils containing two essential long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids which are fundamental building blocks of the brain and the retina. DHA and ARA are naturally delivered to babies through breast milk. The British Nutrition Foundation and the Joint Expert Committee on Human Nutrition of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization and World Health Organization (FAO/WHO) have recommended that DHA and ARA be included in all infant formulas.
