MARSH HARBOUR INN READY FOR BUSY SUMMER SEASON ON BALD HEAD ISLAND
The Marsh Harbour Inn on Bald Head Island offers a delightful solution. The luxurious 16-room bed and breakfast inn is preparing for its first summer season on one of the East Coast's most unspoiled vacation spots.
The Marsh Harbour Inn is the newest amenity on Bald Head Island, a unique resort and residential community off the southeast North Carolina coast. Here nature is the featured attraction, with 14 miles of sandy white beaches, 10,000 acres of lush tidal marshes, and one of the East Coast's largest stands of protected maritime forests.
Bald Head Island is accessible only by passenger ferry or private boat, and cars are not allowed on the island. Visitors travel in electric carts, on bicycles or on foot. With a posted speed limit of 18 miles per hour, there's no choice but to live life in the slow lane.
The Marsh Harbour Inn is designed for travelers with only a few days to spend on the island. "From Memorial Day to Labor Day, there's practically no place to stay overnight or for two or three days," owner and live-in innkeeper Lem Mitchum said. "Marsh Harbour Inn is designed to serve these travelers."
Although Bald Head Island moves at a slower pace, there is no shortage of things to do. Featured amenities include an acclaimed George Cobb signature golf course, two championship croquet greenswards, a 25-meter swimming pool, tennis complex, a picturesque 10-acre marina, and three outstanding restaurants.
The Mitchums are also marketing the inn to business customers looking for a unique spot to hold conferences, seminars and executive retreats. Lem and his wife Chip moved to Bald Head Island last spring from Columbia, SC, where Lem ran a financial planning firm.
