MARRIOTT AWARDED CONCESSION CONTRACT FOR MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL TERMINAL

 MARRIOTT AWARDED CONCESSION CONTRACT
 FOR MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL TERMINAL
WASHINGTON, Jan. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The Federal Airports Corporation of Australia (FAC) today announced the award of a food and beverage concession for the International Terminal at Melbourne Airport to Marriott Corporation (NYSE: MHS).
Marriott will assume operation of the existing concession at midnight on March 1, 1992 and immediately begin developing new facilities, which will feature internationally recognized brands, for the expanded terminal complex currently under construction.
"The combination of unique concepts and Marriott's proven performance in over 50 major international airports was a primary factor in making this award," said John Taylor, general manager, Melbourne Airport. "Residents and international visitors to Melbourne will be able to enjoy an unsurpassed variety of terminal concession offerings, and the new facilities will reflect a standard of excellence that we will provide in all future FAC concessions."
Marriott will commence interviewing local candidates for management and hourly positions in late January, giving priority consideration to interested employees of the incumbent concessionaire. "We're delighted to have the opportunity to serve travelers at Melbourne Airport," said J.W. Marriott, Jr., chairman and president of Marriott Corporation. "Coupled with the opening next month of our new 241-room hotel in Sydney, it gives us an immediate, enviable presence in Australia. We look forward to expanding that presence and to exploring additional opportunities throughout the Pacific Rim."
Marriott Corporation, headquartered in Washington, is a diversified hospitality company involved in lodging and contract services.
