MARRIED 60 YEARS: PAT AND BOB ARMACHER.Byline: - Nicole Sunkes Pat and Bob Armacher of Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family and friends on Dec. 28 at the Friendly Valley Country Club in Santa Clarita. The couple met in June 1942 in Hartford, Conn., while Pat was visiting her sister. They met at an open-air dance, and several weeks later Pat decided to move to Hartford to live with her sister. Upon notice of Bob's being drafted into the Army, they were married on Dec. 28, 1942. The university is adjacent to Grant High School. Often called "Valley College" or simply "Valley" by those who frequent the campus, it opened its doors to the public on September 12, 1949, at which time the campus was , graduating in 1973. He retired from Pacific Telephone in 1985 after 35 years of service. Pat was born in Walgrass, Maine, in 1923. She graduated from Fort Kent High School in 1941. After she and Bob settled in California, she remained at home raising their children. Once the children were grown, she worked for the Los Angeles Unified School District The Los Angeles Unified School District (the "LAUSD") is the largest (in terms of number of students) public school system in California and the second-largest in the United States. Only the New York City Department of Education has a larger student population. for 11 years until her retirement in 1979. The couple has two children: Robert Armacher of Grass Valley and Vickie Sue Laurent of Palmdale. They have four grandchildren, one great- grandchild, one step-grandchild, and three step-great-grandchildren. MARRIED 50 YEARS: RODNEY AND MARY STEPHENSON Rodney and Mary Stephenson of Canoga Park celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at home with family and friends on Feb. 14. They met in Pennsylvania, and after their wedding on Feb. 14, 1953, they moved to Florida, where Rodney served in the Air Force. They moved to California in 1956. Mary worked as an exectutive secretary for an adverstising agency from 1959 to 1967, and later as teacher's assistant at Capistrano Elementary School elementary school: see school. for 12 years before retiring in 1987. Rodney earned a degree in engineering from Pennsylvania State University Pennsylvania State University, main campus at University Park, State College; land-grant and state supported; coeducational; chartered 1855, opened 1859 as Farmers' High School. and later worked at Rockwell before retiring in 1989.
