MARRIED 60 YEARS: FRED AND MARJORIE SPERLING.Byline: - Elizabeth Rodriguez Fred and Marjorie Sperling of Calabasas celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a surprise party hosted by their family and friends on Feb. 9. Marjorie and Fred were next-door neighbors growing up and later became high-school sweethearts. They married on Valentine's Day Valentine's Day: see Saint Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day Lovers' holiday celebrated on February 14, the feast day of St. Valentine, one of two 3rd-century Roman martyrs of the same name. St. 1942 at the First Lutheran Church in Joliet, Ill. Marjorie graduated from Joliet Township High School. She moved around a lot with her husband during his military service. She raised her children alone for two years while Fred served in Korea. She worked as a dance instructor in the South Bay area for 15 years. She has been a member of the Amigo club since 1966. Fred also graduated from Joliet Township High School. He then attended the University of Cincinnati The University of Cincinnati is a coeducational public research university in Cincinnati, Ohio. Ranked as one of America’s top 25 public research universities and in the top 50 of all American research universities,[2] . He joined the Air Force during World War II. He then joined the reserves and was recalled for the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was Master Navigator in during the Korean War Korean War, conflict between Communist and non-Communist forces in Korea from June 25, 1950, to July 27, 1953. At the end of World War II, Korea was divided at the 38th parallel into Soviet (North Korean) and U.S. (South Korean) zones of occupation. . He finally retired after 38 years of service. He also worked for Rockwell Boeing for 30 years. The Sperlings have lived in Calabasas since 1965. The two have taken many trips together; 11 cruises and seven country tours, including Russia and Greece. They say they are very close to their family and love them very much. They have three children: Fred C. Sperling of El Segundo El Segundo (ĕl sēgŭn`dō), industrial city (1990 pop. 15,223), Los Angeles co., S Calif., on Santa Monica Bay; inc. 1917. Its products include navigation and computer systems, aircraft parts, office machines, telephone apparatus, and ; Craig J. Sperling of Hawaii; and Darnlee Hewitt, who is deceased. They have three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. They say they have many great memories and are grateful, and they feel special to have reached this milestone. For a successful marriage, they advise couples to give and take in equal measure.
