MARRIED 55 YEARS: MARY JANE AND GUSTAVO DATO JR.

Mary Jane and Gustavo Dato Jr. of Panorama City celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary with their family on Oct. 25 at the Tam O'Shanter Inn in Los Angeles.

They met at a department store during Christmas of 1945, and were married Oct. 23, 1948, at the San Gabriel Mission.

Mary Jane graduated from New Ulm High School in New Ulm, Minn., in 1942, and moved to California in 1943. She worked in the steno sten·o

After entering World War II, it became clear that America would soon face a critical shortage of nurses nationwide. As the war progressed, the demand for nurses increased dramatically.
. She studied nursing at St. Anthony Hospital School of Nursing in Denver for 1 1/2 years and worked at the Golden State Creamery Co. until 1949, when she began work as a homemaker. She remains active in several bridge clubs, a bunco group and in the North Hollywood Republican Women, Federated.

Gustavo graduated from Los Angeles High School Los Angeles High School, founded in 1873, is the oldest public high school in the Southern California Region and in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Its colors are blue and white and the teams are called the Romans.  in 1940, and attended Los Angeles City College Los Angeles City College, known as LACC, is a public community college in the Hollywood section of Los Angeles, California. A part of the Los Angeles Community College District, it is located on Vermont Avenue south of Santa Monica Boulevard.  until he joined the Merchant Marines and was sent to their academy on Long Island, N.Y. He graduated in 1944, and served as an officer on several ships until his discharge in 1945. Gustavo studied television engineering and worked in that capacity from 1948 until his retirement from ABC in 1986. He worked on the Academy Awards, Tournament of Roses Parade The Tournament of Roses Parade was established, and first held, on January 1,1890, in Pasadena, California, eight miles (13 km) northeast of Downtown Los Angeles.

Rooted in tradition, this parade is broadcast on multiple television networks, watched by upwards of one
, the American Music Awards and many other programs and was made a fellow by the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers or SMPTE, (IPA pronunciation: [sɪmpti] and sometimes [sʌmpti] .

They have three children: Patricia Mahaffey of Rancho Palos Verdes Rancho Pal·os Ver·des

, Karen Lavin of Woodland Hills and Gregory Dato of West Hills. They also have five grandchildren.

MARRIED 50 YEARS: RICHARD AND GLORIA HAMPTON

Richard and Gloria Hampton of Sylmar celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their family on Sept. 6 at Knollwood Country Club in Granada Hills.

They first met when Gloria was 14 years old, and they began dating in her senior year of high school. Richard entered the National Guard, and they continued dating once he returned. They were married on Sept. 6, 1953, in Los Angeles.

Gloria graduated from Mount St. Mary's Mount St. Mary's may refer many institutions.

 College in 1954 and worked as a nurse in several hospitals until her retirement in 1993. She runs a support group for children at St. Didacus Parish in Sylmar and volunteers at MEND, a free clinic in Pacoima.

Richard graduated from Polytechnic High School in Los Angeles in 1948, entered the National Guard in 1950 and served in Japan and Korea until 1952. He worked as a mechanic for Chevrolet for 35 years and he also volunteers at MEND.

They have five children: Terry Hampton of Sylmar, Laura Pavich of Lompoc, Nancy Reiman of Lancaster, Carolynn Croshier of Sylmar and Linda O'Neal of Gervais, Ore. They also have eight grandchildren.
