MARRIED 50 YEARS: VAL AND DEE SILBERNAGEL.

Val and Dee Silbernagel of Granada Hills celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary by renewing their vows at St. John Eudes Church in Chatsworth April 22, followed by a brunch at the couple's home.

The couple met on the Boardwalk in Belmar, N.J., through a mutual friend. After dating for two years, they married on April 22, 1951, at St. Leo's Church in Irvington, N.J.

After graduating from Irvington High, Dee became a work-at-home mom and raised six kids. Dee reads for pleasure.

Val joined the Navy during the Korean War Korean War, conflict between Communist and non-Communist forces in Korea from June 25, 1950, to July 27, 1953. At the end of World War II, Korea was divided at the 38th parallel into Soviet (North Korean) and U.S. (South Korean) zones of occupation. . After completing his service, he graduated from New Jersey State College. Later he founded Valentine Valentine

The couple moved to California from Connecticut in 1973. They thought it would be the perfect place to start a business. For a successful marriage, they suggest that couples hang in there together and not give up at the first sign of trouble.
