MARRIED 50 YEARS: HAL AND HELGA ROSS.


Hal and Helga Ross of West Hills celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their friends and family on Nov. 15 at home in West Hills.

Hal and Helga met at the wedding of a mutual friend in Upland in February 1950. They were married at a resort in Upland on Nov. 15, 1952.

Helga was born in Dortmund, Germany, on March 16, 1929. She and her family fled Germany in December 1939 for St. Paul to escape Hitler and the Nazis. She attended high school in St. Paul and moved to California in 1947.

Hal was born March 19, 1925, in Los Angeles. He attended Roosevelt High School, and after graduating in 1943, he entered the U.S. Air Force. After serving for three years, he attended California Institute of Technology in Pasadena. He worked as a mechanical engineer for North American Aviation for 36 years before retiring in 1984.

Upon moving to West Hills in 1952, the couple met their next-door neighbors, the Pascos Pasco (păs`kō), city (1990 pop. 20,337), seat of Franklin co., SE Wash., on the Columbia River near its confluence with the Snake and Yakima rivers. It is a trade and shipping center for the Columbia basin project. Farm products include wheat, alfalfa, potatoes, beans, grapes, and cattle., with whom they share the same wedding anniversary. The couples remain neighbors and close friends today.

The couple also has a home in Las Vegas, where they spend most of their time.

They have four children: Glenn Ross, Dr. David Ross and Nancy Ross, all of Las Vegas; and Craig Ross of Roseville, Calif.

MARRIED 50 YEARS: JIM AND PAT PASCO

Jim and Pat Pasco of West Hills celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with their friends and family on Nov. 15 at home in West Hills.

The couple met through a mutual friend at National Van Lines in Chicago in February 1952. They were married at St. Edward's Church in Chicago on Nov. 15, 1952.

Pat was born Feb. 8, 1930, in Chicago. She attended Alvernis High School and graduated in 1948. After moving to Los Angeles in 1952, she worked for the Los Angeles Unified School District as a cook until she retired in 1991.

Jim was born March 21, 1927, in Chicago. He attended Lane Tech High School and graduated in 1944. He served in the U.S. Navy for 14 months during World War II. After moving to California, he worked at Data Products for over 20 years as a tool and die maker, retiring in 1995.

When the Pascos moved to West Hills in 1952, they moved next door to another young couple, Helga and Hal Ross. They discovered that they have the same wedding anniversary, and have been close friends ever since. The Pascos celebrated their anniversary with the Rosses and they also spent a few days at the Pierpoint Inn in Ventura.

The Pascos have three children: Lynda Pasco of West Hills; Jim Pasco of Ventura; and John Pasco of Newhall.
