Agoura, which lost to Santa Barbara in last year's Div. IV title game, was the team to beat the Dons in the postseason, capturing the 2001 title. Royal fell in the 2004 final.

Santa Barbara graduated six players and is ranked third in the division.

Top-ranked Agoura is led by Daily News Player of the Year Meghan Corso. The Cal-bound senior set a Marmonte League record with 136 goals last season, and she has strong support from sophomore Casey Flacks and junior Carley Clark.

``The rest of the team is going to step up this year,'' Agoura coach Jason Rosenthal said. ``(Corso) won't have to do everything. We don't have to put everything on Meghan's shoulders this year.''

Royal returns every starter except its goalie, including All-Daily News selections Kelly Palmberg and Angie Rampton.

Palmberg scored 87 goals last season, and Rampton took advantage when opponents focused on Palmberg. Junior 2-meter Agnes Konopka will be the chief distributor.

``(Konopka is) going to be huge,'' Royal coach Devin Hurst said. ``She was one of our leading assist people, and now she has the experience.''

Thousand Oaks is led by Kat Plummer, who faces multiple coverage from opponents. Sophomore Whitney Delgado is an outside sniper - she has twice scored the winning goal with Plummer covered this year, to beat Cabrillo of Lompoc in the Mistletoe mistletoe, common name for the Loranthaceae, a family of chiefly tropical hemiparasitic herbs and shrubs with leathery evergreen leaves and waxy white berries. The Bulldogs were runners-up last season with a senior-heavy team. Back is junior all-leaguer Meline Khanpapyan, and Ani Shirinian also is a scoring threat.

FRONTIER

Talented Malibu looks like a good bet to repeat as league champion. The Shakrs, ranked 10th in Div. IV, return four starters, including all-league selection Seana Diemer. Oaks Christian of Westlake Village, which lost its first 13 games last year, adds freshman Kelsey Farrar, who tried out for the national zone team.

Agoura, Royal of Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks are the powers, but Newbury Park, Moorpark and Westlake likely will challenge for playoff berths. Newbury Park benefits from athletic driver Bridgett McKee, who is nearly 6-foot tall. ``I'd take her on my team, if I had the chance,'' Agoura coach Jason Rosenthal said.

Krystyn Ross scored 85 goals for Louisville last season. Alemany is led by all-leaguer Jessica Manke and her sister, freshman Erin Manke, an age-group All-American.

PACIFIC VIEW

Rio Mesa of Oxnard finished second to Oxnard last season, but the Spartans return their entire roster, all-leaguers Lacey Norton and Shannon Danieley included, and is expected to contend for the title. ``Oxnard is very dangerous,'' Rio Mesa coach Keith McKnett said. ``Whoever brings their 'A' game that day comes away with the win.''

Crescenta Valley of La Crescenta is favored to repeat as champion. The Falcons are led by senior drivers Kristin McLaughlin and Minah Kim and goaltender Rebecca Kandillian.
