Cory Primm and Hudson Andrews figure to meet in a heated, competitive 800 meters sometime this season. Friday at the Marmonte League finals was just a prelim.

Andrews, from Royal of Simi Valley, stalked Westlake's Primm for much of the race before blowing past him with 150 meters to go at Moorpark High.

It ended up not being much of a finish between the area's top two 800 runners. Primm, who had run the 1,600 earlier in the day, put up no resistance as he faded down the stretch.

``I came in feeling good and tried to take it out,'' Primm said.

``But, by the end of the first lap, I could tell I didn't have it.''

Despite being in the same league, Primm and Andrews have never had much of a race against each other. Andrews only started doing the 800 this year. When they went up against each other in the dual meet, Westlake's strategy was for Primm just to place in the 800 and save his energy for other events. Last week at the Ventura County Championships, Primm elected not to run the 800.

``I look forward to an all-out race with him,'' Andrews said. ``I was nervous going into today. He's put up some great times.''

Andrews won with a time of 1:56.97. Primm, who ran a 1:51.65 last year, finished in 2:00.02.

Darrell Scott, annihilated his personal bests by winning the 100 meters in 10.77 and the 200 in 22.08. His previous top marks, which came last week at county, were 11.00 and 22.42.

Newbury Park's Chelsea Davis, who would have been going for her third consecutive Marmonte title, had to pull out of the 400 meters because of a hamstring injury that will end her season.

The junior showed up to the meet willing to run if her coaches gave her the go-ahead. But she was having trouble walking, let alone sprinting.

``It was a tough decision,'' Newbury Park coach Mike Stewart said.

Michael Cybulski, defending state champion in the 3,200 meters, held back to help pace his Royal teammates and cruised in for first place in 9:24.07.

Royal's Nicole Blood won the 3,200 meters and the 1,600 meters, then anchored the 1,600-relay team to a second-place finish. Her time of 10:36.55 in the 3,200 was her top of the season and places her fourth in the state on the year.

Anna Sperry of Simi Valley finished second to Blood in the 1,600 and 3,200 but won the 800 in a Marmonte record of 2:15.42.
