MARKET-LEADING MOTOR COACH & TRUCK MANUFACTURER EXPANDS SYMIX SOFTWARE ACROSS 11-SITE OPERATION.

- Grupo Dina Division Receives Symix 'Lifetime Achievement Award' At

SymixWorld -

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Oct. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Symix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SYMX) today announced that Consorcio G Grupo Dina (NYSE: DIN, DINL) in Mexico has begun implementation of recently acquired Symix enterprise applications at its subsidiaries' operations in Canada, the United States, Mexico and Argentina. Motor Coach Industries (MCI), a three-plant division of Grupo Dina based in Winnipeg, Canada, has been a Symix customer since 1994, and has also begun implementation of additional Symix enterprise software. MCI was recently awarded Symix's "Lifetime Achievement Award" at SymixWorld, Symix's user conference.

The sale, which closed in June 1998, included SyteLine enterprise resource planning (ERP) software for an additional 350 concurrent users, as well as SyteLine configuration, advanced planning and scheduling (APS), business intelligence, EDI and Web applications. SyteLine is Symix's ERP software suite for manufacturers of industrial products and related industries.

Grupo Dina and its subsidiaries manufacture medium and heavy trucks, tractor trailers and inter-city and transit coaches at 11 manufacturing sites in North and South America. Grupo Dina has approximately 70 percent of the motor coach and bus market in Mexico, and over 50 percent of the U.S. market through its subsidiaries.

"After an intense review of the principal systems on the market, we found that the Symix suite was the only one that could address our requirements on all levels," said Erasmo Flores, the leader of the team that selected and is implementing SyteLine. "Symix meets our operational requirements at each plant, provides for our worldwide financial consolidations, and gives us the tools to do sophisticated analysis across our businesses. We are excited to begin implementation, and to start reaping the benefits of our new system."

Symix's APS application was a key component in the sale. Ken Denman, MCI Director of Information Technology, noted, "Our products change down to the last minute on the manufacturing line. Symix's APS will help us not only manage these changes, but understand the impact of these changes across our operations." APS applications ultimately allow manufacturers to commit order delivery dates to their customers and deliver to meet those commitments. The entire SyteLine enterprise application suite enables Symix customers to more effectively integrate customer needs into their central planning processes, a concept that Symix has termed CSRP.

Francisco Algarra, Grupo Dina Director of Information Systems for Mexico and Argentina, added, "We selected Symix on the breadth of its enterprise application suite, and particularly its ability to support complex configurable products in a make-to-order environment. The strength of Symix's performance and delivery record with our MCI subsidiary was also pivotal to our decision. Symix applications are proven in our organization and in our industry; they played a large role in helping MCI to nearly triple its production rate."

"Grupo Dina's and its subsidiaries' key focus is on better serving its customers, which aligns perfectly with Symix's Customer Synchronized Resource Planning (CSRP)," said Steve Yount, Symix Vice President of Americas Field Operations. "They have embraced our suite of CSRP enterprise applications -- ERP, configuration, APS -- and we look forward to helping increase the success of their business as we extend this relationship."
