MARK H. OVITZ JOINS GLENN GORDON CARON'S
PICTUREMAKER PRODUCTIONS AS CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
Will Also Actively Oversee Development of Television,
Feature Films in Addition to COO Responsibilities
HOLLYWOOD, Jan. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Mark H. Ovitz has joined Picturemaker Productions as chief operating officer, it was announced this morning by Glenn Gordon Caron, Picturemaker founder and president. In addition to being charged with managing the overall operations of Picturemaker, Ovitz will be actively involved in developing and producing the company's slate of television and feature motion picture projects.
"As Picturemaker continues to expand, the company needs to effectively manage its growth and the resulting increase in corporate operations," commented Ovitz. Caron concurred, "We are committed to aggresively expanding our theatrical and television slates and Mark's track record on both the management and creative sides of the business will prove invaluable to achieving these goals. We are thrilled that he has decided to join us."
According to Ovitz, Picturemaker plans to develop and produce television product in all genres and formats for network, first-run, syndication and cable. The company already has a first look deal with ABC Entertainment for three new television series and a multi- year overall television agreement with the Network Television Division of Paramount Pictures.
"Our goal is to create a haven for writers. Glenn and I are both committed to the idea that it all begins with the script. And particularly in light of Glenn's experiences on 'Moonlighting,' our goal is to establish a production and development environment where the free flow of ideas is, you'll pardon the pun ... Paramount." In the feature film area, the company is not limiting itself to simply finding projects for Caron to produce or direct, but intends to produce films from a wide range of filmmakers. To that end, Picturemaker will soon announce the appointment of a senior development executive whose sole responsibility will be to seek out new talent.
Before joining Picturemaker, Ovitz was chief operating officer of Patrick Hasburgh Productions. He also executive produced numerous made-for-television features for The Walt Disney Co., including "Iman," "The Brat Patrol," "You Ruined My Life," "Double Agent," "Splash Too" and "Davy Crockett."
Prior to becoming an independent producer, Ovitz spent eight years at Paramount Pictures Corp. where he held several development posts including senior vice president of creative affairs for television and senior vice president of current programming, among others. Before joining Paramount, Ovitz spent two years in the motion picture distribution area supervising advertising campaigns for Cine Artists Pictures and Avco Embassy Pictures.
Paramount Pictures is a part of the entertainment operations of Paramount Communications Inc.
