 MARATHON SYSTEMS ANNOUNCES ACQUISITION
 OF SCRIBNER, JACKSON ASSOCIATES
SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Marathon Systems today announced it has acquired Scribner, Jackson Associates of Walnut Creek, Calif.
Marathon Systems President, Bill Guerin, views this union as an answer to a demand in the marketplace for one-stop shopping for client/server and PC LAN applications and networking expertise. "Marathon's charter is to solve business problems with information technology solutions that traditional computer vendors and 'Big 6' accounting firms do not deliver," stated Guerin. "The birth of Marathon Networks will strengthen Marathon's ability to take total ownership of the client's information systems problem."
This acquisition is timely and compliments Guerin's plan to maintain Marathon's position as the West Coast leader in client/server applications and systems downsizing. Marathon's rapid growth and market differentiation is quickly being recognized on a national level. The Gartner Group recently published its national survey of "1991 Leaders in Client/Server Consulting" and listed Marathon Systems as one of the industry leaders and among the sixth largest in the United States. Of this designated group, Marathon Systems is the only firm headquartered on the West Coast.
Dwight L. Jackson, president of Marathon Networks, sees this new relationship as a means to deliver stronger, more complete solutions needed by businesses in the 90s. "This marriage will give us a competitive advantage over Novell VARs and network integrators who cannot reach the executive door in large organizations. Business executives are starting to seek vendors who can do more than just install and support networks -- they are seeking a solid, reliable business partner who brings to the table a boardroom level business acumen, industry expertise, plus the technology ability to take full problem ownership. Using the right information systems partner can mean the difference between success or failure to a company. Particularly in these times, executives do not have the financial buffer to deal with the consequences of incorrect decision making with new information systems."
Scribner, Jackson Associates, now Marathon Networks, has been a premier provider of communications consulting in the Bay Area since 1979. Founding partner, Dwight L. Jackson, and his organization have been very successful in designing, installing, and supporting software and communication systems from Novell, Microsoft, Banyan, and IBM. Representative clients include Levi Strauss, Blue Shield, Ford Aerospace, Kaiser, Lockheed, Pacific Bell, Mason McDuffie, Bell Atlantic, Transamerica, and Gigante of Mexico.
Marathon Systems is the West coast leader in client/server applications and computer system downsizing and is a business partner with Borland, Microsoft, Lotus and Gupta Technologies. Clients include American President companies, Bank of America, DHL, Fireman's Fund, Matson Navigation, Pacific Bell, PG&E, Wells Fargo Bank, and Unocal. Marathon Systems, headquartered in San Francisco, was founded in 1987. The company is privately held.
