MARATHON GROUP AWARDED U.K. LICENSES

 HOUSTON, April 6 /PRNewswire/ -- A four-company group led by a subsidiary of Marathon Oil Company (NYSE: MRO) has been awarded two production licenses encompassing almost 340,000 acres in the United Kingdom Continental Shelf waters, it was announced today.
 The two licenses cover seven blocks on the western edge of Cardigan Bay and on St. George's Channel between Wales and Ireland. License one comprises blocks 102/10, 103/1, 103/6 and 106/27 in the channel; license two includes blocks 106/18, 106/19 and 106/23 in the bay.
 The group's participants are: Marathon Oil U.K., Ltd., 60 percent; Santos Europe Limited, 20 percent; Orange-Nassau Petroleum Search B.V., 10 percent; Seagull U.K. Ltd., 10 percent.
 Marathon Oil Company is a unit of USX Corporation.
