Ana Barreto of Rye Brook, N.Y., has been appointed as the director of sales at the Hotel Thayer at West Point. In her new position, Barreto is responsible for directing the entire sales and catering staffs.

Barreto has an extensive history of experience in the hotel business. Prior to joining the Hotel Thayer, she worked with the Crowne Plaza Hotel in White Plains, N.Y. for four years, first as a sales manager, then as senior sales manager. She has worked as a front desk supervisor and reservationist in four and five-star hotels.

She is currently pursuing an M.B.A. degree at Pace University in White Plains, N.Y. She holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Marymount College in Tarrytown, from which she graduated in 1995.

Barreto is a member of the National Business Travel Association (NBTA), and Meeting Professionals International (MPI), and received the MPI Member of the Month Award in 1998. She speaks both English and Portuguese, and is fluent in Spanish.

Insignia/ESG has promoted two brokers, David J. Block and Steven K. Greenbush, to the post of director. Both men are based at the firm's Stamford, Conn. office and provide brokerage expertise to both tenants and owners in the Westchester-Connecticut office market. Their roster of prestigious tenants, however, has also provided them the opportunity to expand their expertise by working in markets around the country. Between them, Block and Greenbush have completed transactions throughout the New York metropolitan region, as well as in Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, and Boston.

Mr. Block started his real estate career with Insignia/ESG in 1993, and was one of the firm's first brokers in the Westchester-Connecticut region. His accomplishments during his tenure included several of the county's most noteworthy transactions. Most recently, Block represented New America Marketing in the relocation of its headquarters to almost 109,000 SF at 20 Westport Road in Wilton, Conn., Blue Sky Studios, a division of 20th Century Fox, also in a headquarters relocation to 42,571 SF of space at 44 South Broadway in White Plains, N.Y., and InSite Services Inc. in the expansion and relocation of its headquarters to the same White Plains CBD building.

Block was honored with Insignia/ESG's "Top Producing Sales Associate" award twice and earned the firm's "Silver Award" for strong production in the past two years. He sits on the board of directors of the Westchester county chapter of the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA).

Like Block, Greenbush is a veteran broker of Insignia/ESG's Westchester-Connecticut operation, having joined the firm in 1994. He is also one of the region's up-and-coming professionals, and has completed almost a million SF of transactions during his career. Over the past two years, Greenbush was responsible for arranging such notable deals as META Group's 116,000 SF headquarters expansion at 208 Harbor Drive in Stamford.

Together, Block and Greenbush have made quite an impressive brokerage team, completing multiple transactions throughout the region. Their most recent accomplishments include arranging several leases for iWon, Inc., a destination Internet portal and an Insignia/ESG exclusive client, in Manhattan, Los Angeles, Chicago, and San Francisco.

Cushman & Wakefield announced that John M. Cefaly, 52, a vice chairman and prominent brokerage professional with the firm, will lead its newly created national brokerage advisory board as chairman.

Throughout his career, Cefaly has established a reputation for excellence in the New York City metropolitan area marketplace. He has been engaged as a broker and as a consultant by many leading global corporations, financial institutions, and law firms, both New York City-based and nationally. Cefaly has conducted sales and leases of more than 15 million SF for prestigious clients such as Commerzbank AG, Depository Trust Company, Fidelity Investments, Fuji Bank, Guy Carpenter & Company, Hughes Hubbard & Reed, the Sanwa Bank Ltd., and UBS. Over the past 12 years, his results-oriented leadership and tenacious work ethic have consistently ensured his position as one of C&W's top five brokerage professionals in the nation, and his being named one of Real Estate Forum's superstar brokers in 1997. Cefaly is also a member of C&W's board of directors, the global management committee, and the powerful compensation committee, where he served as a member for the past three years.

Cefaly is also a member of the Real Estate Board of New York, the Downtown Lower Manhattan Association, and the Downtown Association. A native of Ashley, Penn., he graduated from Wilkes College with a degree in economics. He and his wife reside in Manhattan.

Edward R. Home, director of brokerage services at The Schultz Organization, announced the appointment of Vincent J. Costa, III as a retail specialist. Mr. Costa will be responsible for representing retailers, landlords, and investors in the sales and leasing of retail space throughout New Jersey.

Prior to joining The Schultz Organization, Costa was a sales representative with Primetime Entertainment, and was also employed in the construction industry.

Crystal Window & Door Systems announces two new sales representatives in its Northeast region. Ronald Ostrofsky has been named commercial sales manager of architectural products for the New York metropolitan area, covering New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Howard Blatt has been named Long Island account executive, covering Nassau and Suffolk counties.

Ostrofsky will develop the commercial aluminum window market for Crystal in the New York tri-state area, with particular emphasis on products with AAMA (American Architectural Manufacturers Association), HC or heavy commercial designations.

Ostrofsky has previously worked as a sales manager for Home Depot, Highlife Builders Corporation, and other construction-related firms.

Blatt, as an account executive for Long Island, will concentrate on distributors involved with the new construction and replacement window and commercial window markets for Crystal's vinyl and aluminum window and residential door lines.

Blatt has previously held sales management and marketing jobs with Alarmguard Inc., City Gates Inc., Durawall Corporation and Uneeda Enterprises.

Missy Frank, a real estate professional, has joined Realty1Q as Southeast regional manager.

Frank will oversee a membership-development team focused on the Southeast region of the United States. She is currently involved in corporate client development, product development, and strategic planning.

Prior to joining Realty1Q, Frank was vice president of a commercial real estate investment and property management firm in the Southeast. Her experience covered a broad range of commercial real estate disciplines, including investment valuation, finance, sales & acquisitions, brokerage, property management, site renovation, construction, and development.

Frank began her commercial real estate career while pursuing a degree in real estate at the University of Alabama, where she received the Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager Award and Scholarship.

Following GVA Williams' recent acquisition of Associated Realty, the company has established a property management division at their New Jersey offices. In addition, GVA Williams has hired Ken Nilsen as senior district manager to lead the firm's management operations in the state.

Nilsen has held several important positions in asset management in the past, including vice president of property management at Wick Enterprises of Woodbridge, N.J., where he assumed the task of rebuilding the property management division. He was also a property manager at Bender and Company, where he was responsible for budgeting, bid coordination, and capital improvements for Metropolitan Corporate Plaza, a building that subsequently won the BOMA Building of the Year Award. Before these achievements, Nilsen worked for Lincoln Property Company and Cushman & Wakefield. He is also an RPA candidate and a member of BOMA.

Kenneth J. Nilsen has joined GVA Williams from CB Richard Ellis, where he served as vice president and senior real estate manager. In this capacity, Mr. Nilsen was responsible for managing more than 3,000,000 SF of space. In 1997, CB Richard Ellis recognized him as the eastern region property manager of the Year.

CoStar Group announced that John F. Dawson was promoted to regional vice president of CoStar's western region.

Now based in CoStar's Orange County office in Southern California, Dawson will be responsible for the western region, where he will oversee sales, customer support, client satisfaction and research. Markets that Dawson will manage for CoStar include East Bay, Inland Empire, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Orange County, Phoenix, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle and South Bay. In 1999, Dawson established operations and offices in Florida and significantly expanded CoStar's coverage in its southeast region. He quickly developed a strong customer base consisting of hundreds of commercial real estate firms. Prior to the Florida expansion, Dawson was an account executive for CoStar in New York and Connecticut responsible for marketing and selling CoStar products to prospective customers.

John Dawson joined CoStar in 1997 after a variety of roles in the commercial real estate industry. He has 12 years of experience in brokerage and information services. Prior to joining CoStar, Dawson led several projects in the business development division of the Galbreath Company. He earned a bachelor of science from West Virginia Wesleyan College and is a frequent speaker on the subject of real estate technology and trends.

Wally Papciak, formerly a senior marketing and product development executive at COMPS.com, has joined Realty1Q as senior vice president of sales and marketing.

At COMPS.com, Papciak served as executive vice president. In this capacity he provided the product and marketing vision, planning, and implementation that helped transform COMPS into an Internet information company, resulting in a successful February 1999 IPO raising $67 million.
