Butler Rogers Baskett announced that Karen Anne Boyd, AIA AIA - Application Integration Architecture , has joined the firm as an associate.

Boyd is an expert in planning, programming, and design of educational institutions. During her 17-year career, she has developed comprehensive plans for some 25 institutions, specializing in work with colleges and universities. Her clients have included Dickinson College, New School University, and SUNY/Stony Brook. Prior to joining Butler Rogers Baskett, she was director of campus space planning and management at Gettysburg College.

Boyd holds a B.A. from Smith College and an M.A. in architecture from the University of Virginia. Her published articles and conference presentations have dealt with such topics as the team-building process, new technology, and the future of planning for community colleges.

Castle Senior Living is pleased to announce that Susan Sugarman has been promoted to director of community outreach at the organization's 80th Street Residence and Paul Rosen has been promoted to director of programming. The 80th Street Residence is a free-standing facility dedicated to memory impairing diseases.

In her new position, Sugarman's responsibilities include the development of special events dedicated to aging and other related topics and the organization of presentations to the medical and geriatric community. Prior to joining Castle Senior Living, Sugarman served as a social worker and a coordinator of Alzheimer's programs.

In his new position as director of programming, Rosen schedules group and individual activities, such as musical concerts and day trips. He is also developing a new pet-therapy program.

Cushman & Wakefield announced the appointment of Stuart R. Essery as executive managing director of U.S. operations.

Based in Cushman & Wakefield's Los Angeles office, Essery will be responsible for the establishment of effective business and management tools for U.S. operations. He will focus on creating systems that accurately evaluate branch performance and productivity, as well as broker performance. In addition, he will lead Cushman & Wakefield's integration team following the recent merger of Cushman & Wakefield and Cushman Realty Corporation. Essery was previously senior vice president and chief financial officer of Cushman Realty.

The Liberty Science Center in Jersey City has re-elected Tom Stanton to its board of trustees for a three-year term.

Stanton joined the board in 1997 and currently serves on the capital project committee for the Center's $90 million expansion program. He specializes in tenant representation for corporations such as Lockheed Martin, Aventis Pharmaceuticals, and Mitsubishi International.
