New York-based Helpern Architects has named Margaret Castillo and Susanne Mackiw as principals.

Margaret Castillo joined Helpern Architects in 1996. Named a senior associate in 1999, she currently serves as project architect for Carnegie Hall, Marble Collegiate Church, and Columbia University's Low Library. She recently was responsible for the restoration of the historic Skinner-Trowbridge house for Yale University's School of Management, and also for the State University of New York at Oswego's comprehensive five-year capital plan for facilities improvements.

Castillo received a B.A. from Boston College and a master of architecture from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. A New York City resident, she is on the board of The Carl Schurz Park Association.

Susanne Mackiw, who joined Helpern Architects in 1982, leads the group responsible for the building technology aspects of restoring, renovating, and recycling historic and older structures. Among her former clients are Con Edison, the City University of New York, Yale University, and the NYC School Construction Authority. As head of Helpern Technical Services, she also provides interior and exterior building inspections.

Mackiw holds both a B.S. and a bachelor of architecture from City College of New York, and a masters of architecture from the University of Pennsylvania. A member of the Construction Specifications Institute, she lives in New York City.

Ellie Dalton, AIA, has been named a principal of Swanke Hayden Connell Architects. Dalton was a principal of Taylor Clark Architects, a firm specializing in the planning and design of healthcare and assisted living facilities that was acquired by Swanke Hayden Connell in June.

Dalton will head up a new specialty division, to be known for now as Swanke Hayden Connell Architects/Taylor Clark Healthcare Group, and will be responsible for establishing the course of the project from programming phase to completion of construction.

Dalton's 22 years of professional architectural experience include programming, master planning, and design of health-related projects, as well as corporate and commercial facilities. She was responsible for the development of the original comprehensive facilities master plan for the 3 million SF New York Hospital campus. Currently, she is directing the inter-institutional strategic plan for the New York Presbyterian Hospital at both Weill Cornell Campus and the Columbia Presbyterian Campus, totaling 8 million SF.

She received a B.A. and an M.A. in Architecture from North London University's School of Architecture & Environmental Design in the United Kingdom.

The Roosevelt Hotel has named Lillian R. Kreppel senior business travel manager.

Kreppel, a hotel industry veteran who has more than 10 years' experience, will be responsible for managing The Roosevelt's corporate transient market, a significant portion of the hotel's annual revenues. As senior business travel sales manager, Kreppel will create corporate meetings and incentive packages to increase sales traffic, develop corporate contracts and perform rate negotiations, meet with travel agents and meeting planners, and oversee a business travel staff.

Prior to joining The Roosevelt, Kreppel served as corporate sales manager with The Holiday Inn Wall Street Hotel and the Fitzpatrick Grand Central Hotel. She also worked in group sales at the Omni Berkshire Place Hotel in Manhattan, and early in her career, served as a marketing and sales coordinator for Club Med, Cancun, Mexico.

Kreppel earned her bachelor of arts degree in communications from the University of Hartford.

Boston Properties, Inc., a real estate investment trust, announced that Douglas T. Linde, 37, currently senior vice president for financial and capital markets, has been appointed chief financial officer, succeeding David G. Gaw, who will work with him on transition matters during the next month. David G. Gaw will leave the company effective Oct. 31.

In addition, Boston Properties announced that Terence D. McNally, 42, vice president and controller, who has been with the company for 16 years, has been named chief accounting officer.

Gerard Marinaccio has been promoted to senior project manager at Ambassador Construction. Ambassador president Jay Koven made the announcement.

Marinaccio has been an important member of the Ambassador team for more than 20 years. In recognition of his field leadership and project management ability, Marinaccio has been elevated to this position of higher visibility and increased responsibilities. As senior project manager, he will oversee all aspects of the construction process from start to finish and provide hands-on direction.

Marinaccio recently supervised several major interior construction and renovation projects in Midtown Manhattan, including Mass Mutual's 65,000 SF office renovation at 530 Fifth Ave.; Putney Twombley's new 18,000 SF law offices at 521 Fifth Ave.; and the new Lenscrafters store at 530 Fifth Ave.

Marinaccio has attended Parsons School of Design and is a member of the International Facility Management Association.

Michael Allen Seeve, president of Mountain Development Corp. announced that John Raggio has joined the firm and will head the company's financial services division.

Raggio will be responsible for Mountain Development Corporation's financial and transactional projects, will arrange debt and equity for current and future ventures.

Formerly affiliated with Tremont Realty Capital as managing director in charge of its mortgage origination efforts in New York, Raggio brings with him more than 18 years of experience in the real estate investment and finance field. During this period, he was directly involved in the acquisition, financing, and disposition of more than $6 billion of real estate assets.

Prior to his stint with Tremont Capital, Raggio was vice president of GE Capital Real Estate's institutional account, where he was responsible for overseeing GE's structured finance/equity investments with institutional investors.

A graduate of Baruch College, he holds an MBA from the Stern School of Business in New York City.

Cushman & Wakefield has named David P. Solomon to the newly created position of chief technology officer (CTO).

He will report directly to C&W president and CEO Arthur J. Mirante II.

In his new position, Solomon will direct and integrate the continuing development of C&W's internal and external strategic technology initiatives, building on the global technology infrastructure he helped create in his previous role as chief information officer (CIO) for the firm. In that role, he was responsible for information technology on a firm-wide basis. As CTO, Solomon will oversee a global staff of more than 50 professionals, working on projects such as the redesign and expansion of C&W's website, its intranet site, administrative uses of the Internet; business and marketing uses of Zethus, and other e-commerce technology initiatives of the firm.

As CIO, Solomon's most recent projects included the design and implementation of a global messaging platform using Lotus Notes, the implementation of a company-wide solution for financial accounting and human resources, and work related to Y2K compliance for the firm's intranet and Internet sites.

Prior to joining Cushman & Wakefield in 1983, he worked as a commercial real estate salesperson and financial analyst in midtown Manhattan.

A graduate of SUNY-Albany, Solomon lives on Long Island with his wife and daughter.

Some of the New York real estate community's most prominent members gathered recently to raise more than $1 million to help establish The Owen D. and Jennifer B. Thomas Research Fund for Immunology at the National Jewish Medical and Research Center in Denver.

Owen D. Thomas, the head of Morgan Stanley Realty, will receive the National Jewish Humanitarian Award Dec. 9 in New York City. The event benefits National Jewish, the research center devoted exclusively to research, patient care, and education for chronic lung and immune system diseases.

Approximately 50 industry leaders met at the home of National Jewish trustee Larry Silverstein to kick-off this year's real estate and construction industries winter's evening gala, honoring Thomas.

Tickets for the December event, to be held at the Grand Hyatt New York, must be purchased in advance. Net proceeds from this event will be used to support research, and clinical and educational programs.

Richard B. Saltzman, Merrill Lynch & Co., last year's honoree, will be inducted as at trustee of National Jewish at the event, as will Charles Kushner of the Kushner Companies, and Wendy M. Siegel.
