Greenman - Pedersen, Inc., (GPI), an engineering, planning and construction inspection firm, has named Keith E. Giles (photo), P.E., L.S., a vice president and branch manager of its Albany, New York office.

In his new position, Giles will oversee all operations for the office, which serves a variety of governmental and private sector clients in the Upstate New York area, as well as Vermont and western Massachusetts.

A professional engineer and land surveyor with over 34 years of experience, Giles comes to GPI from the New York State Thruway Authority, where he recently retired as the chief engineer and was responsible for developing and implementing multi-functional engineering and maintenance programs. He successfully led the Authority's implementation of its $1.55 billion capital construction program.

Giles previously served as the chief engineer and director of the New York State Canal Corporation, where he was responsible for canal operations, maintenance, toll collection, repair, improvement and development of the historic waterway. He has also worked as an engineer for the New York State Department of Transportation and as a land surveyor for several consulting firms.

Giles earned a BSCE degree from the University of Oklahoma. He is currently the president elect of the New York State Society of Professional Engineers. He professional affiliations also include The Transportation Research Board, New York State Association of Professional Land Surveyors, and American Society of Civil Engineers.

eBricks.com, an on-line procurement network for the construction industry, has named Bige Doruk (photo) vice president of business development. Doruk will lead eBricks.com's efforts to develop strategic alliances and partnerships, in addition to exploring emerging business opportunities.

Doruk brings a wealth of e-commerce, strategic and operations experience to eBricks.com. Before joining the company, she created alliances and partnerships for eSteel.com as director of business development. Prior to that, she was an engagement manager with McKinsey & Company, where she worked with CEOs and senior management teams in a variety of industries.

Doruk also worked at Solvay Polymers, managing the operations for one of the largest units in the company and implementing over $3 million in capital projects annually.

During her career, Doruk has acquired extensive international experience and has worked in several countries, including the U.K., Sweden, Germany and the United States. She speaks five languages and holds an MBA from the Harvard Business School and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University.

Frank Lopriore (photo), CCIM, has joined Insignia/ESG as managing director in the Industrial Services Group at the firm's New Jersey office in Saddle Brook. The announcement was made by Patrick Murphy, executive director of Insignia/ESG's Saddle Brook, NJ office.

Lopriore joins Insignia/ESG after several successful years with Charles Klatskin Company Inc., a real estate brokerage firm based in New Jersey, where he held the post of assistant vice president. During his tenure, Lopriore was responsible for a number of prominent transactions in the New Jersey industrial market, including a 327,000 square-foot, 10-year sublease to AM Cosmetics.

Lopriore recently earned the Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designation from the Commercial Real Estate Institute, an affiliate of the National Association of Realtors. This advanced designation recognizes Lopriore as an expert in the disciplines of commercial and investment real estate.

Prior to his real estate career, Lopriore was involved in the manufacture, importing and marketing of leather goods and accessories as president of both Mico Handbags and Priore Bags and Belts.

Norman B. Baker (photo), a veteran of the commercial real estate industry with 30 years of experience, has been named executive managing director of Insignia/ESG's New Jersey office in Saddle Brook, NJ. The announcement was made by Patrick Murphy, executive director of Insignia/ESG's Saddle Brook office.

Baker specializes in the leasing and sales of office properties, and has played a key role in many of New Jersey's most important transactions. As a tenant representative, he has represented numerous Fortune 500 companies such as Metromedia, Dime Savings Bank, Cigna and Konica. Baker's agency leasing work has seen him represent prominent institutional owners and private developers including MetLife, The Mack Family, Brandywine Realty Trust and ProLogis Trust.

Baker began his real estate career in New York City in 1969. He founded a boutique office real estate brokerage in New Jersey in 1975, which grew into a two-office, 25-person operation before its sale to Cushman & Wakefield in 1983. During his nine-year tenure with Cushman & Wakefield, Baker was regularly among the firm's top producers nationwide.

Amy Tanenbaum (photo) has joined The Cheshire Group, LLC as the Manhattan-based investment firm's Sales director. Bringing with her 17 years of management experience - 11 of which were in the real estate industry - Tanenbaum will be responsible for overseeing Cheshire's newly-instituted internal closing department, as well as assisting in directing sales at several of the firm's cooperative communities located throughout the metropolitan area, according to Susan Hewitt, Cheshire's president.

"Thanks in large measure to our joint venture with Great Neck, NY-based Sterling Equities, we've successfully expanded our portfolio of cash-producing cooperative and condominium units throughout New York City and its suburbs," notes Hewitt. "With a continued healthy economy fueling sales activity, we felt it prudent to establish an internal closing department which will expedite the process for buyers. Amy's extensive experience handling and supervising closings at a number of New York City co-op communities made her the ideal candidate to oversee the origination and development of this new department."

Prior to joining Cheshire, Tanenbaum served as the director of the Cooperative Closing Department for The Argo Corporation in New York City. Her extensive and proven track record representing numerous New York City cooperatives has earned her the reputation with attorneys and co-op board members alike as one of the most experienced and efficient transfer agents in the industry. Tanenbaum helped to create the workshop entitled "The Professionals' Perspective - Closings," which is presented at the Council of New York Cooperatives' annual Cooperative Housing Conference.

Tanenbaum previously served as a promotions consultant in Boulder, Colorado, specializing in media and public relations, special events planning and trade shows. She also was the client relations manager for the Jacobs Division in Lafayette, Colorado, manufacturers of children's ski clothes, overseeing 15 national sales teams.

A resident of New York City, Tanenbaum holds a BS degree from the State University College at Brockport.

Thomas P. Durels, president of W&M Construction, has announced that Donald A. Landau and Timothy W. Yahn have been promoted to senior vice presidents.

Donald Landau (photo) supervises the day-to-day activities of W&M Construction's Manhattan office, where he has been responsible for overseeing construction projects handled by its staff there since 1996. He is directly responsible for servicing W&M Construction's New York City client-accounts, and is responsible for the division's bottom line performance.

Landau has more than 15 years of experience in the construction industry, and has overseen many large high-end interiors projects for major law firms and Fortune 500 companies in New York City. He previously was a vice president of W&M Construction.

Timothy Yahn (photo) supervises the daily operations of W&M Construction's Connecticut office, overseeing construction throughout Fairfield County and Westchester County and various out-of-state assignments. He is directly responsible for W&M Construction's Connecticut and Westchester accounts, and is responsible for the division's bottom line performance.

Yahn will also be responsible for-establishing and maintaining uniform operating procedures company-wide, including job cost accounting and systems, purchasing and contract administration.

Yahn has more than 15 years in the construction industry, with experience in commercial, industrial and residential work. He previously was a vice president of W&M Construction. A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he received a B.S. in engineering, he is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Connecticut Army National Guard and Special Assistant to the Chief of Staff.

The New Jersey Chapter of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR) has elected Stan Kurzweil (photo) president for 2000. Kurzweil is vice president of Colliers Houston & Co. and had previously served as vice president of the distinguished commercial real estate group and as membership director for NJ SIOR.

SIOR is a global group of top office and industrial real estate professionals. Only some 2,000 brokers, nationally and internationally, who have demonstrated proven skills as experienced practitioners in the industry, have attained the SIOR designation. These professionals have an average of 20 years in the industry and offer representation in 800 offices located in 450 cities worldwide.

"I am truly honored to take the-helm of such a highly respected group of real estate leaders at a very special time in history," said Kurzweil. Kurzweil joined Colliers Houston & Co. in 1985 and is the senior executive heading up the office leasing brokers at the firm's central New Jersey regional headquarters in Somerset. During his career he has negotiated transactions in excess of $200 million. He has served as the exclusive tenant representative for a host of major corporations, including USAA, Automatic Data Processing, Bankers-Trust, DHL Airways, Inc., LSI Logic Corporation, Hanover Insurance, Marriott and Merrill Lynch, among others.

Prior to real estate, Kurzweil held executive posts in the corporate arena, such as director of Administration and Finance. He studied Economics at the University of Missouri and holds an MBA in Finance from Bernard M. Baruch University. Kurzweil resides in Short Hills, NJ, and is active in community and religious organizations. He and his wife, Bette, an attorney, have two children.
