MAN WANTS AN OASIS IN THE VALLEY.

Byline: BRENT HOPKINS Staff Writer

WOODLAND HILLS -- Tonight, Mark Steele will stand up and tell of his dream, 12 years and hundreds of thousands of dollars in the making.

Steele, president of the Valley Sports Authority Sports Authority is the USA's largest full line sporting goods retailer. The company is headquartered in Englewood, Colorado. It operates over 400 stores in 45 U.S. states under the Sports Authority name. Total sales for the fiscal year ending January 29 2005 were $2.44 billion. , will address the Woodland Hills-Warner Center Neighborhood Council's planning and land-use committee and make his case once again to bring a major sports and entertainment venue to the San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

Now, he'll address the group of business leaders and homeowners and hope they'll share the vision that's guided him through the long, frustrating process. He aims to win approval to seek up to five acres for the $100 million project he hopes will bring pro sports and major concerts to the Valley.

``Do you want just another office building?'' he said Tuesday. ``Do you want just another condo? God forbid, do we need more retail? Whether you want to buy a brassiere, a book, or a Bombardier jet, you can get it within 10 minutes of the Warner Center. We need something new.''

He pitched the full neighborhood council in August, then had his project recommended for study by the planning committee planning committee n (in local government) → comité m de planificación . After tonight's meeting, he hopes to win approval by its Oct. 18 meeting.

With the council's blessing, he'll then begin discussions with the Mayor's Office and Councilman Dennis Zine to seek out land for the proposed center.

``We're hoping to hear a little bit more about who's backing it and how bona fide [Latin, In good faith.] Honest; genuine; actual; authentic; acting without the intention of defrauding.

A bona fide purchaser is one who purchases property for a valuable consideration that is inducement for entering into a contract and without suspicion of being

Steele said he hasn't yet begun discussions with landowners, but past reports have identified Pierce College In 2006 the Library won a national Excellence award. Academics
