MAN SOUGHT IN TODDLER'S DEATH : 3-YEAR-OLD LIVED WITH 17 OTHERS IN TRAILER.

Sheriff's deputies searched Wednesday for a teen-ager suspected in the death of his girlfriend's 3-year-old daughter in a remote desert trailer, where 18 people were living without running water.

Eighteen-year-old Sergio Valenzuela, described by deputies as a member of an Inglewood-area gang, is suspected in the death of 3-year-old Selina Ortega, who was pronounced dead about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday after she was brought to a fire station by Valenzuela's parents, authorities said.

 Maria Valenzuela, her son kicked the girl Tuesday night as she ran to get a plate after asking for something to eat.

``She fell to the floor, hit her head and stopped breathing,'' said Maria Valenzuela. ``A little bit later she started breathing again.''

Maria Valenzuela said she and her husband put the girl in a car to drive her to a hospital, but their trip was sidetracked when the girl stopped breathing again. According to Maria Valenzuela, her son left the home when she went to seek medical attention for the child.
