Juan Fernandez, 25, a construction worker for Los Angeles-based Best Glass Co., was working atop a fourth-floor scaffolding alongside several other employees when he fell.

``The scaffoldings below actually helped to break his fall,'' Dellamalva said. ``He fell roughly 30 feet and I'll tell you this, it was his lucky day because had he not hit the other scaffoldings on his way down it would have been a totally different story today.''

Fernandez was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital for observation and was said to be in stable condition.

It was not immediately known what caused the fall.

Fernandez, who lives in Rosemead, suffered a cut on the side of his head and other minor bruises, Dellamalva said.
