MAN HELD IN GIRLFRIEND'S SLAYING; AFTER FLAGGING DOWN OFFICERS, HE BECAME SUSPECT.

A man who flagged down police and said he had not heard from his girlfriend in several days was arrested on suspicion of murder Wednesday after the 21-year-old woman was found stabbed to death, officials said.

Robert Vann Carson, 34, was arrested after he led officers to Lea Thomas' apartment in the 7100 block of Woodman Avenue where Lea Thomas (language) Thomas - A language compatible with the language Dylan(TM). Thomas is NOT Dylan(TM).

``We interviewed him and there's obvious discrepancies in his story,'' Rahm said. ``They had a dispute and he became angry . . . There's some obvious problems with the relationship.''

Carson is the father of the victim's 2-year-old daughter, who was staying with her grandmother at the time of the killing and has since been placed in her protective custody An arrangement whereby a person is safeguarded by law enforcement authorities in a location other than the person's home because his or her safety is seriously threatened. .

The suspect is in the process of being divorced by his wife who lives in Van Nuys and has four children, Rahm said.

Thomas had moved from her parents' home in South Central Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  to the Van Nuys apartment about three weeks ago, neighbors and police said.

She had left a temporary job as a clerical worker at a Pasadena law firm last week and was signing up for psychology and sociology classes in the fall at a local college. She was last seen by her neighbors on Sunday Sunday: see Sabbath; week. .

Officers got the apartment manager to open her home and found Thomas dead on her bed. Police interviewed Carson and arrested him early Wednesday.

Neighbors where Carson lives described him as a polite, respected father who spent much time with his children while at home on disability.
