MAN GUNNED DOWN IN DISPUTE COPS SAY ATTACK MAY BE LINKED TO GANG ACTIVITY.

``Witnesses said there was some kind of gathering of unsavories, guys that looked like gang members, at the complex,'' said Deputy Dave Jennings David Tuthill Jennings (born June 8, 1952 in New York, New York) was an [  of the Palmdale sheriff's station. ``They heard gunshots and then the victim was down.''

An ex-convict, Shamburger had been released from jail last month after being arrested in Hollywood and spending two months behind bars on charges including auto theft and conspiracy, sheriff's jail records show.

When deputies and paramedics arrived, they found Shamburger bleeding in an apartment courtyard, and other men were with him. Some fled after the shooting.

Paramedics rushed Shamburger to a helicopter and airlifted him to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia.

Witnesses said the shooter was an African-American man in his early 20s wearing black jeans and a black jacket. One witness said she saw a man matching the description of the shooter fleeing the scene seconds later, and said he stood about 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighed about 180 pounds.

Soon after the shooting, deputies stopped a man, matching the description of the gunman, who they said was standing on a street corner a block away and acting oddly.
