crackdown on a notorious gang tied to at least five slayings resulted in murder charges against only one of them, but four other suspects were charged with attempted murder In the criminal law, attempted murder is committed when the defendant does an act that is more than merely preparatory to the commission of the crime of murder and, at the time of these acts, the person has a specific intention to kill. .

Three other murder suspects were freed because of a lack of evidence.

Prosecutors said Wednesday that they filed charges against three adult suspects - one with murder and two others for attempted murder. Two juveniles in the gang already have been charged with attempted murder.

The three adults who were freed Tuesday had been held for six days. They were held in connection with an April 14, 1995, double murder in Van Nuys, but one prosecutor cited ``severe evidentiary ev·i·den·tia·ry

``This is a very complicated case, and we're still sorting through it,'' said Deputy Chief Martin Pomeroy. ``They are a particularly violent group, and they represent a grave danger Grave Danger is the name of the last two episodes in the of the popular American crime drama , which is set in Las Vegas, Nevada. He said the case is far from over. ``It is just a matter of sifting through a mountain of evidence, that is a very painstaking, time consuming task,'' he said. ``We're working very closely with the District Attorney's Office on the follow-up investigation.''

Son Bui, 19, is the only suspect arrested last week who has since been charged with murder, authorities said. He was arraigned Wednesday on the charges that he killed Rogelio Ferman, 23, of Canoga Park during a shootout Shootout

Truong Dinh, 20, who had been arrested previously in the Ferman case, and Mihailo Zorich, 23, also were being held. They were charged with four counts of attempted murder in connection with a May 29 shooting on Interstate 5.

Glitches arose earlier this week and prosecutors cited ``severe evidentiary problems'' with the cases submitted by LAPD investigators, officials said.

The suspects were arrested after a two-month-long task force targeting the notorious Asian Boys gang, which officials say has been tied to at least five murders in the San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley
