The manager said he suspected Dee after watching a TV news report on the accident.

``I couldn't believe it,'' he said. ``I knew where it had happened. That particular driver had been up there, and circumstances led to where I believed that was it, and then I checked the license-plate number and it matched.''

Dee is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail and is expected to be arraigned today in Van Nuys Municipal Court.

``Once we look at all the evidence and do a reconstruction, we will sit down and look at it and talk to the witnesses and find out if there was any legitimate reason that caused him to lose control of his vehicle,'' said CHP Sgt. Steve Munday.

Munday said the suspect told investigators that a big rig Big Rig was a punk band from the San Francisco Bay Area fronted by singer/songwriter Jesse Michaels. While stating that big-rig drivers are among the most experienced drivers on the road, CHP officials said statistics continue to show that commercial vehicle drivers are at fault more than 50 percent of the time when involved in traffic crashes.
