MAN, SUSPECTED OF KILLING LOVER, NOW ON THE RUN.

Byline: BRAD A. GREENBERG Staff Writer

SHERMAN OAKS -- Vicky and David were high school sweethearts. They shared the same home on Chandler Boulevard, the same birth date and the same interests.

David Allan Weir, 23, was Vicky Ramirez's first love.

But their seven-year romance had unraveled and early Sunday morning Sunday Morning may refer to:
  • "Sunday Morning (radio program)", a Canadian radio program formerly aired on CBC Radio One
  • CBS News Sunday Morning, a television news program on CBS in the United States
  • Sunday Morning (TBS TV series)
, Weir shot and killed his 21-year-old lover, police said.

Now Weir, with a criminal track record, is on the lam and Ramirez's family members are left to wonder how they could have prevented this tragedy.

``There was no warning. Nothing,'' said Teresa Ramirez, Vicky's older sister.

True, Ramirez had begun taking nursing classes and told family members she was planning to leave Weir. And two months ago, he was arrested on suspicion of possession of narcotics narcotics n. 1) techinically, drugs which dull the senses. 2) a popular generic term for drugs which cannot be legally possessed, sold, or transported except for medicinal uses for which a physician or dentist's prescription is required.  and was free on bail, said police spokeswoman Norma Eisenman.

But there were no signs that Weir had abused Ramirez in the past and nothing to indicate he would take her life, family members said.

Ramirez was ready to walk away from her job at Weir's bar, Lucerna, in Van Nuys, and move in with Teresa.

``The best thing she could have done was just to leave that bastard bastard, person born out of wedlock whose legal status is illegitimacy. In civil law countries and in about half the states of the United States, the union of the parents in marriage after birth makes the child legitimate. ,'' said Alex Panameno, her brother-in-law.

Family members wondered if she was trying to leave when Weir allegedly pulled the trigger.

Weir's family members could not be reached for comment.

Dispatch got the call about 2:30 a.m. Sunday from Weir's father, Larry, who told them Ramirez had been shot at a home in the 13000 block of Chandler Boulevard, where his son was living with Ramirez and David's mother, Carmen Carmen

Eisenman said it was unclear whether Larry Weir discovered Ramirez's body or was phoned by his son. Carmen Weir was not home at the time, police said.

After being notified by police, Ramirez's parents, who are divorced, sped over from the West Valley. They were met by yellow tape and a secured crime scene. No admittance Admittance

One neighbor heard Becky Ramirez scream, ``She's gone! My baby's dead! Let me see my baby!''

Hours later this stretch of suburbia had returned to normal.

``When we drove by, the tape was off and you wouldn't know anything ever happened. My niece's car was still parked in the driveway,'' said Ramirez's aunt Rachel Pozo, 54, of Winnetka.

Police were searching for information about Weir's whereabouts. Teresa Ramirez said Weir has a brother in Mexicali, Mexico, and that he speaks Spanish fluently.
