MAKING INFORMED WEIGHT-MANAGEMENT DECISIONS JUST GOT EASIER FOR CONSUMERS

PITTSBURGH, Dec. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Consumers now have a tool to help them get the information they need to make informed weight-management choices.
Diet Center, Inc. announced today that it has adopted a Consumer's Right-to-Know policy. The policy recommends steps to take before beginning any weight-management program and provides guidelines for safe weight loss and effective weight maintenance.
"People can't assume that all businesses that offer weight-management services and products uphold the same standards for safety and ethics that Diet Center subscribes to. So we're making a resource readily available to help them determine the credibility of products and services themselves," says Ida Laquatra, Ph.D., R.D., of Diet Center, Inc.
The policy also helps to educate people -- before they commit themselves to a program -- about their personal responsibility in making lasting change, according to Laquatra.
"We teach the information and skills needed to make lifestyle change, but, at some point, it becomes an issue of whether people take the responsibility to apply it in their own lives," adds Laquatra.
Diet Center's Right-to-Know policy advises consumers to: review the credentials of the registered dietitian who designed the program; obtain estimates on program length and cost; and understand the program's nutritional content, as well as any potential health risks. Also, the policy stresses that maintaining weight loss depends on making permanent lifestyle change and warns of the health risks associated with unhealthy weight loss of more than two pounds a week.
Diet Center, Inc. has encouraged its international network of Diet Center franchise owners to adopt the Right-to-Know policy. Call 1-800-333-2581 for a copy of the Diet Center Consumer's Right-to-Know policy.
