MAKING A BALD MOVE FOR A YOUNG HERO.

Hair today, gone tomorrow should be the motto for Margo Dutton and Scott Spooner, members of the Northridge chapter of the Kiwanis Club who shaved their heads to raise more than $6,300 for the cancer research program at Children's Hospital Los Angeles Childrens Hospital Los Angeles (founded 1901) is a private, non-profit teaching hospital in Los Angeles. It is affiliated with the Keck School of Medicine of USC and the Children's Miracle Network, an international non-profit organization dedicated to helping children by raising .

This hair-razing idea came about at a Kiwanis meeting, when they met 4- year-old William Doyle of North Hills, who is receiving chemotherapy at Children's Hospital A children's hospital is a hospital which offers its services exclusively to children. The number of children's hospitals proliferated in the 20th century, as pediatric medical and surgical specialties separated from internal medicine and adult surgical specialties.  as treatment for an extremely rare tumor that grows on the lungs of children.

LeRoy Pereira of the Kiwanis Club in Hayward, where William's grandfather lives, came up with the idea of asking Kiwanis members to have their locks shaved off for $1,000 a head.

Dutton immediately wrote a check for $1,000 and agreed to shave her head if the club raised at least $5,000. Within 10 days, they raised more than $6,000.

``I was scared to death, but in all honesty, I'm proud of my division for raising $6,000 in 10 days,'' Dutton said.

Spooner agreed to shave his head, too, but refused to let barbers touch his mustache. ``The mustache stays,'' he said.

Chas Duff, 14, of Chatsworth was named one of California's top two youth volunteers for 2003 by The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, which honors young people for outstanding acts of volunteerism.

For his project, Chas is transforming an old locker room into a library at William Tell Aggeler High School, a school for juvenile offenders in Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850. . Robert M. Sperry, a patent attorney from Woodland Hills, was honored by the Inventors Workshop International Education Foundation for 50 years of outstanding service to inventors.

Sperry is a former president of the Ventura chapter of IWEF and served as head of the patent division of the Rocketdyne Division of Rockwell International for eight years.

Joel Blitz of Westlake Village was inducted into the Baxter Healthcare Donor Hall of Fame for donating 140 pints of blood to the UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles
