Byline: Charles F. Bostwick Staff Writer

MOJAVE - Workers on Friday cleared a rail line blocked by a freight train derailment derailment /de·rail·ment/ (de-ral´ment) disordered thought or speech characteristic of schizophrenia and marked by constant jumping from one topic to another before the first is fully realized.  that led authorities to close a one-mile stretch of Highway 14 for four hours.

Highway traffic was rerouted Thursday evening along surface streets until authorities determined there was no danger from the railroad cargo: isopropyl alcohol isopropyl alcohol: see isopropanol. , plastic and ammonium phosphate ammonium phosphate

A Union Pacific spokesman said his company is still investigating the cause of the derailment, which occurred at the southern end of Mojave just west of Highway 14.

The 63-car train was traveling from west Colton in San Bernardino San Bernardino, city, United States

County to Roseville in Northern California, spokesman Mike Furtney said. None of the crew was injured.

No evacuations were ordered by authorities, but a market near the derailment closed up shop early for the night and officials advised residents of the Haven of Rest trailer park to stay inside and keep their doors and windows Doors and Windows is a multimedia disk by the Irish band The Cranberries. That was a precautionary measure only, Brooks said.

``There was nothing in the air,'' he said.

Two empty tank cars that had most recently carried carbon dioxide carbon dioxide, chemical compound, CO2, a colorless, odorless, tasteless gas that is about one and one-half times as dense as air under ordinary conditions of temperature and pressure.  fell onto their sides, but the other cars remained upright after leaving the track, officials said. Some of the ammonium phosphate spilled out of a hopper car, Brooks said.

The highway was shut down about 4:30 p.m. and reopened about 8:30 p.m., Brooks said.

Railroad crews reopened one main line about 11:30 a.m. Friday and were expected to open the second by early evening, Furtney said.
