MAJOR COLOMBIAN INDUSTRIES TO ATTEND BARTER MEETING

PEARL RIVER, N.Y., Aug. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Several dozen representatives of major Colombian industries will be attending a luncheon meeting on Aug. 24, 1993 at the Club Union in Medellin, Colombia to consider pursuing barter transaction for their companies. The meeting is taking place under the auspices of Active International a leading trading company in the field with offices in New York, Toronto, London, Budapest and Mexico.
Tony Fiore, senior vice president of sales, and Pablo Diaz, vice president of international sales, will be conducting the meeting and presenting various programs Active can offer for consideration. Among the companies that will be represented at the meeting are Colteger, Productos Noel, Fabricato, Almacenes Ley, Nacional De Chocolates, Fabrica de Licores de Antioquia and Cadenelco.
Both Fiore and Diaz are very optimistic about the results to be achieved in light of Colombia's strong business climate. In 1992 Colombia's stock market took first place as the best performance of the "Emerging Markets," followed by Mexico and India. Colombia has been the only South American country that has not experienced a single year of negative GDP or per capita income growth since 1980. Colombia has never had to reschedule public debt. U.S. exports to Columbia, in 1992, increased by a whopping 68.8 percent to $43.5 billion. With the new oil field, the largest in the Americas, Colombia becomes a major OPEC Cartel member, bigger than Katar and Gabon.
