 MAINSTREAM DATA INTRODUCES 'MAINSTREAM NEWSCAST' (TM);
 TURNS MACINTOSH INTO A SATELLITE DESKTOP NEWS TERMINAL
 SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Mainstream Data, a leader in FM/Satellite data broadcast technology, announced the release of "Mainstream Newscast," a broadcast information service that delivers news from leading sources to Apple Macintosh computers via FM radio and satellite. Newscast transforms the Mac into a powerful desktop news terminal capable of receiving, filtering and displaying real- time news from multiple newsfeeds. The system also works in background mode (without using a dial-up modem) while the user performs other processing tasks.
 Users may monitor business and general news sources such as Associated Press, Reuters, McGraw-Hill, Knight-Ridder, Market News Service, NewsNet, PR Newswire, Business Wire, The Sports Network, WeatherBank and many others. Along with software, all that is required to tap into the network is an FM antenna or small satellite dish, a few feet of coaxial cable, and Mainstream's "Intelligent Data Receiver" or "IDR" which receives the FM or satellite signal and formats it for use by the computer.
 The stand-alone version of "Mainstream Newscast" is available now. Newscast for local area networks, integrated with the leading electronic mail systems will be available in the second quarter.
 Pricing is based upon monthly subscriptions to the various information sources accessible on "Mainstream Newscast," eliminating charges based on connect time, searches, records or storage. Prices for news delivery to a stand-alone Macintosh start at about $50 per month, depending upon the wire services selected by the end user. Incremental charges for additional terminals in the LAN e-mail services can be as low as $10 per month.
 Analogous to an electronic newspaper, "Mainstream Newscast" provides the user with up to 18 different "sections" or windows in which one can sort the news into as broad as the "stock market" or "biotech" or as specific as "Yugoslav politics" or "Getty Oil."
 John Bennion, Mainstream's executive vice president, said that "Mainstream Newscast" utilizes the best of today's technology to produce a powerful news processing tool that is "inexpensive, reliable, and timely. "What's more," said Bennion, "our customers can constantly monitor their favorite news sources without the inconvenience of external dial devices. Subscribers will also know precisely what their costs will be -- there are no charges based upon the number of stories meeting the end user's profile, nor on the number of profiles used to filter the news."
 Applications for "Mainstream Newscast" are numerous. Marketing managers may create competitive profiles, sales reps can monitor key customers and prospects, financial officers can track economic trends and tax legislation pertinent to their industries and public relations professionals may review coverage of their clients.
 "More and more companies see the need for news in their operations, yet Macintosh news integration software is minimal," said Associated Press product manager Julie Denny. "AP is delighted to work with Mainstream in this groundbreaking Newscast endeavor."
 Mainstream Data, based in Salt Lake City, was founded in 1985 to provide data broadcasting networks to the information industry. Mainstream's FM/satellite data broadcasting networks blanket North America, sending timely information to more than 10,000 locations.
