MAIL ORDER BUSINESSES RECORD 15.8 PERCENT INCREASE FOR FIRST SIX MONTHS
CHICAGO, Sept. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- In the face of an economic slowdown and soft retail sales the mail order catalog business showed remarkable strength in the first six months of 1992.
In a report issued by Maxwell Sroge Company, Chicago-based mail order consultants, publicly-owned mail order companies increased their sales 15.8 percent in the first six months of 1992 versus the same period last year.
The Maxwell Sroge report, sent to subscribers to the 16-year old newsletter Non-Store Marketing Report, showed that the leader in sales increase was Dell Computer up 119.7 percent followed by CML Group with an increase of 56 percent in sales helped mostly by their NordicTrack operation.
Double digit sales increases were also reported by Gander Mountain, Lands' End, Lillian Vernon, QVC, Sharper Image, Viking and Williams Sonoma.
"Catalogs are giving consumers better values and far better service than they are getting at retail," said Maxwell Sroge, president of the consulting firm.
