MAGIC MOUNTAIN TRANSFORMED INTO SPOOK ZONE FRIGHT FEST THE ULTIMATE TRICK-OR-TREAT.

VALENCIA - Magic Mountain will be transformed today into a ghostly autumn spook zone that will be open weekends through October, plus Oct. 30-31.

The park's annual Fright Fest will feature costumed ghosts and ghouls, hair-raising live shows, street entertainers, monstrous mazes and an entire area devoted to children.

New this year is the 3 Green, a bizarre experience of sounds, visual imagery and mind-boggling surprises. Also new is Goliath in the Dark - the park's newest roller coaster will run lights out for this month only.

Back by popular demand is Brutal Planet, a terrifying trip through 12 demon-filled worlds and electrifying special effects that will terrorize even die-hard fans. After passing through the lair of the wicked controller, guests are left on their own to wander the 6,500-square-foot maze.

Brutal Planet will satisfy the Halloween fan out for the scare of a lifetime, but it is not recommended for children under 10.

For younger children, Looney Tunes Spooky House features kids' favorite costumed characters in the ultimate trick-or-trick experience.

Spooky Town is the centerpiece of Fright Fest's children's area, which includes an animal show, street entertainers and handicrafts.

The following is a list of the frights available at this year's Fright Fest.

< Spooktacular mazes:

Brutal Planet: This 6,500-square-foot maze, located near Batman The Ride, offers monsters, chills and thrills in 12 gruesome war-torn lands. (Not intended for children under 10. Ages 13 and under must be accompanied by an adult.)

Willoughby's Haunted Mansion: Hair-raising terror awaits guests around each nightmarish turn and long twisted hallway with each fearful encounter with animatronics, gruesome monsters, camouflage rooms and more. The mansion is situated high atop the mountain - at Samurai Summit. (This attraction is not intended for young children.)

The Jokster's Hideout: There is no blood, no guts and no monsters in this out-of-the-ordinary Halloween maze. The goal is to sneak through the hideout to catch a peek at what projects the Jokster and his crew are working on. Located next to the Flashback roller coaster.

3 Green: This three-man team twists the usual into an unusual experience of sounds, visual imagery and circumstances you won't believe. There is no story line - just plenty of disgustingly gross elements and messes of monstrous proportions that will startle the senses. Located at the Magic Mountain Theatre.

Collossus - Backward: Experience one of the largest, most celebrated coasters in the world, run backward. Travel nearly two miles on this dual track wooden coaster all while sitting completely backward.

Goliath, Viper, and Batman The Ride - In the Dark: Take a spin on the world's hottest new coaster, the world's largest looping coaster or fly high above the streets of Gotham City, completely in the dark.

Monster Alley: Ghouls look for unsuspecting victims along the midway between Mining Town Arcade and Samurai Summit. You won't be able to escape the graveyard voices from the dead as coffins open and shut throughout the hillside.

High Sierra Hypnotist: An amusing show that stars members of the audience. Guests who are chosen to be put ``under hypnosis'' will perform hysterical exploits never to be imitated ``under consciousness.'' Performing twice daily at the Golden Bear Theatre.

LeTourneau's Globe of Death: A 14-foot monster globe features three death-defying motorcycles looping inside at the same time. Performing nightly in the Movie District Plaza.

Street shows and entertainers: The Ghoul Patrol is out in force stalking Gotham City Backlot and Samurai Summit adding to the mysterious atmosphere, while the Galloping Ghoulmet mixes up a witch's brew of absurd entertainment in the Roadkill Kitchen atop Samurai Summit. Mad Chad, the Chainsaw Juggler, will perform his daring routine at the entrance to Gotham City Backlot.

< Especially for children

Looney Tunes Spooky Town: Fun crafts and games in a pumpkin patch setting provide creative excitement for the entire family. Pint-size thrills for younger kids will be offered in the Looney Tunes town designed for the little ones. Enjoy photo opportunities with Bugs Bunny and his Looney Tunes pals, and see what special treats they have in store. Complimentary trick or treat bags for all children ages 10 and under.

The Creepy Crawly Pet Show: The spooky inhabitants of the Animal Star Theater in High Sierra Territory appear during this 20-minute show. The theater's caretakers mystify the audience with creepy creatures including tarantulas, snakes and other peculiar critters.

Street entertainers and activities A lively group of street entertainers roam the Territory each Fright Fest day including face painters, balloon sculptors and more.
