MAGIC MOMENT; WHITE'S 304 YARDS, FIVE TOUCHDOWNS POWER VALENCIA INTO TITLE GAME : VALENCIA 55, SAUGUS 21.

Byline: Jim Inghram Staff Writer

He missed his all-time best game by one yard. But it hardly mattered to Valencia's Manuel White Manuel White (born July 2, 1982) is an American football running back.  or his jubilant teammates.

He and the Vikings passed the test and are in the Southern Section Division III

championship game after drubbing Saugus 55-21 in the semifinals at College of the Canyons College of the Canyons is one of the fastest-growing community colleges in the state. According to the National Junior College Research Association, College of the Canyons consistently ranks in the top 50 community colleges in the nation.  on Saturday.

White, who was up well before 7 a.m. Saturday to take the SAT,finished with 304 yards on 17 carries and scored five touchdowns on runs of 54, 44, 38, 27 and 4 yards to lift the Vikings to their first ever championship game.

``My line did an exceptional job,'' White said. ``There were sometimes on my carries when I didn't even get touched - that's how good they were blocking.

``My line and my fullback (Ray Cassaday) and the wide receivers did a good job, because Saugus had to worry about our passing game.''

The championship game is a place that, a few weeks ago, looked like a long-shot at best for Valencia.

Any team with a Manuel White, however, is never out of the game. This time, White, who has committed to UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles

Valencia (10-3) will take on league foe Hart at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at College of the Canyons and hope to claim its first title.

Hart defeated Valencia 42-21 in the teams' Foothill League meeting.

``We're playing the best team in the state as far as I'm concerned,'' said White. ``We're going to have to play our best game just to be in the game, but we're looking forward to it.''

Three weeks ago, Saugus also beat Valencia, but the Vikings proved that maybe the game was indeed a fluke fluke, parasitic flatworm of the trematoda class, related to the tapeworm. Instead of the cilia, external sense organs, and epidermis of the free-living flatworms, adult flukes have sucking disks with which they cling to their hosts and an external cuticle that .

White scored his first touchdown with 7:18 left in the first quarter. When he scored a second time with 3:39 left in the quarter the rout was on.

White added touchdown runs in each of the three following quarters.

``I think he might have been embarrassed in our first game (when he rushed for 143 yards),'' said Saugus coach Ron Hilton. ``He's just a very talented young man: I'm glad he is graduating. I hope UCLA enjoys him.''

The Valencia defense was just impressive intercepting Saugus' David Parker David Parker is the name of:

The interceptions short-circuited promising Saugus (10-3) drives as each was picked off in Valencia territory.

The loss was a disappointing end to a memorable season for the Centurions.

Saugus won 10 games for the first time in its history and also made its deepest run in the playoffs.

Parker finished the game with 265 yards passing completing 22 of 39, but he did have five interceptions.

Valencia quarterback Kyle Bauer was 6 for 9 with 189 yards and two touchdowns. Pedro Fernandez had three catches for 133 yards, including an 87-yard touchdown.
