MACROMEDIA SHIPS MACROMODEL 1.5 FOR MACINTOSH AND WINDOWS; A CAD-ACCURATE, CURVED-SURFACE 3D MODELER

SAN FRANCISCO, May 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Macromedia, the leading independent supplier of multimedia software products, will begin shipping MacroModel 1.5 for both Macintosh and Windows-based personal computers in early June.
MacroModel is the first 3D modeling program to offer modeling by "deformation" -- the ability to twist, bend and taper entire 3D objects without having to edit individual control points. It is also the first to feature binary compatibility, allowing users to seamlessly transfer files back and forth between Macintosh and Windows.
"MacroModel 1.5 provides a modeling environment that is not only easy to use and very fast, but extremely accurate and capable of doing anything from concept design through CAD," stated Young Harvill, Macromedia Fellow responsible for new technology. "Its smooth transition from illustration programs to powerful three-dimensional modeling makes it a new standard for graphicS arts on Macintosh and Windows. MacroModel's core technology will be an integral part of Macromedia's technical equity for the next five to 10 years."
 New Features in MacroModel 1.5:
-- Twist, Bend, Taper and Non-Uniform Scale Tools
Intuitively model entire objects by "deformation" without having to edit individual control points.
 -- Cross Section Tool
Allows users to create objects like they would in Swivel 3D or other similar modeling programs.
 -- Bevel-Extrude Tool
Extrude objects with a pre-determined round of flat bevel on each or on any side of an object.
 -- EPSF Import
Import 2D files directly from Adobe Illustrator or Aldus Freehand into MacroModel.
 -- New Tutorial Video
Gives users a head start on understanding and using MacroModel.
"With MacroModel, I can arrange and edit objects the way I want to," said Peter Moser of Cogent, located in San Francisco. "It's pretty intuitive. Using both Macintosh and Windows versions has worked out extremely well. We can work on different objects in the same 3D model using two different machines -- an accelerated Mac IIci and a 486 Windows-based PC -- which saves us a lot of time with no cross- platform compatibility problems. It's great!"
The Macintosh version of MacroModel 1.5 will be sold separately at $1,495, bundled with PIXAR's Mac Renderman at $1,795, and bundled with Macromedia's Three-D at $2,495.
Upgrades to version 1.5 from 1.0 will be $99 if purchased before July 31. After Aug. 1, upgrades can be purchased for $149. In addition, MacroModel 1.0 Macintosh users can purchase the Windows version of 1.5 for $995 until July 31. For more information, call Macromedia at 800-288-4797.
The Windows version will be available only as a bundle with PIXAR's Windows Renderman at $1,795 and sold through Macromedia's authorized value-added resellers.
