 doubts about Hart High's football team? Not anymore. The Indians of Newhall defeated perennial power Westlake 38-13 in a nonleague laugher that was wasn't as close as the score indicated.

Sean Norton completed 21 of 36 passes for 290 yards and two touchdowns, and he also ran for two touchdowns. The supposedly untested junior now has directed Hart to a 2-0-1 start against three quality opponents.

``Sean is definitely stepping up. He's hard-working and he really wants it,'' said Cody Kase, who caught eight passes for 161 yards and touchdowns of 48 and 33 yards.

Hart amassed 424 yards, most coming during the first three quarters before emptying its bench. The Indians held Westlake to 211 yards - 33 through the third quarter.

Hart opened with an 11-play, 73-yard scoring drive, capped by Eric Lafferty's 2-yard touchdown. One play earlier, Norton's 32-yard pass to Ciccone set up the touchdown.

Norton continued to find open receivers in the early going. He started Hart's next series by connecting with Wilson on 17-yard completion, followed by passes of 6 yards to Paxton Howard and 24 yards to Wolfe.

Hart eventually cashed in on Will Simon's 22-yard field goal to make it 10-0.

Norton scored a 4-yard touchdown run on Hart's next possession.

Meanwhile, Westlake (1-2) couldn't do a thing offensively. The Warriors couldn't manage a first down until less than four minutes remained in the first half. By that time, Hart was ahead 17-0.

Norton connected with Kase three times - twice for scores - before making an early night of it so reserve Jason Tabak could get a few reps.

Erik Vose passed for two touchdowns in the second half for Westlake. He hit Rob Daniel for 31 yards and Matt McKernan for 37.

Vose, a senior transfer from Chaminade of West Hills, completed 8 of 14 passes for 161 yards, but he was 0 for 4 in the first half.
