Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 17, 2003

M7 Corporation, Inc., today announced at the Sun Network Conference that the award-winning M7 Application Assembly Suite will support the development of industry-standard portlet A small window on a portal page. Portlet technology allows a portal page to be customized more quickly either internally by the development team or by the end user. Portlet technology can come as an adjunct to a portal server or as optional interfaces to ERP applications.  applications enabling corporations to develop portlets easily and without low-level programming. M7 collaborated with Sun Microsystems Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: JAVA[3]) is an American vendor of computers, computer components, computer software, and information-technology services, founded on 24 February 1982.  (Nasdaq:SUNW SUNW Sun Microsystems, Inc (former stock symbol; now JAVA)

Portals provide easy-to-use web interfaces for corporations to aggregate and display information from multiple applications and back-end systems. The various windows displayed within a portal page are known as "portlets." Prior to the emergence of the Java Portlet Specification The Java Portlet Specification defines a contract between the portlet container and portlets and provides a convenient programming model for portlet developers. The Java Portlet Specification V1.0 was developed under the Java Community Process as JSR 168. , each portal server vendor had a different portlet API, making it difficult to create, customize or share new portlets.

The M7 Application Assembly Suite's breakthrough visual tools will enable developers to create standards-based portlet applications in half the time. Portlets created in M7 are completely standards-based and can be deployed on any JSR 168-compatible portal server including Sun ONE Portal Server 6.2.

"M7 is committed to providing breakthrough ease-of-use on top of industry standards," said Zack Urlocker, M7 Vice President of Marketing. "The introduction of the Java Portlet Specification represents a milestone in the portal market. Finally, companies are free to choose the best portal server and the best portlet development tools without fear of platform lock-in."

Development of the Java Portlet Specification was co-led by Sun and IBM (International Business Machines Corporation, Armonk, NY, www.ibm.com) The world's largest computer company. IBM's product lines include the S/390 mainframes (zSeries), AS/400 midrange business systems (iSeries), RS/6000 workstations and servers (pSeries), Intel-based servers (xSeries)  and is supported by leading portal server vendors including BEA BEA - Basic programming Environment for interactive-graphical Applications, from Siemens-Nixdorf. , BroadVision, Oracle, SAP, Sybase and Vignette.

"One of the greatest things about the Java Portlet Specification is that it enables companies to leverage high-productivity tools like M7 so they can get more mileage out of their portal investments," said David Bryant, Sun Microsystems Director of Portal Products. "Instead of adapting their portlets to each individual portal framework, they can focus on simplifying access to back-end systems, managing inter-portlet communication, automating business processes - things that really improve the portal user's experience."

Availability

M7 Portlet Development Suite will be available directly from M7 Corporation and its partners in Q4, 2003.
