M4 wins DOE contract.OAK RIDGE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 12, 1996--M4 Environmental L.P. (M4) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) have signed a $2.2 million contract for M4 to conduct proof-of-process studies on two mixed waste streams (waste with both hazardous and radioactive constituents) from DOE's Oak Ridge Reservation using Catalytic Extraction Processing (CEP CEP congenital erythropoietic porphyria. "We'll conduct tests using two of our Quantum-CEP systems to partition the radionuclides, determine what products we can generate from the waste, and confirm we can process the waste on a commercial scale," he added. The first phase of the DOE Mixed Waste Demonstration Project calls for M4 to process an oil solvent mixture contaminated with uranium. The second phase involves processing soil contaminated with polychlorinated biphenyls polychlorinated biphenyls, (pol´ēklôr´  nā´tid bīfē´n , hazardous solvents and uranium. Both waste streams are considered representative of waste streams throughout the Oak Ridge Reservation and across the DOE complex. M4's first phase report is due to DOE in November, after testing is completed in October. Phase two will most likely begin in January, pending successful completion of phase one.
