Lynn Freeman Olson Awards.


The National Federation of Music Clubs National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC) is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to Music Education and the promotion of creative and performing arts in the United States.  Lynn Lynn, city (1990 pop. 81,245), Essex co., E Mass.; inc. as a town 1631, as a city 1850. Lynn is an old industrial center. The first ironworks (1643) and the first fire engine (1654) in the country were built there.  Freeman Freeman can mean:
  • An individual not tied to land under the Medieval feudal system, unlike a villein or serf
  • A person who has been awarded Freedom of the City or "Freedom of the Company" in a Livery Company
  • The Freeman
 Olson Composition and Scholarship Awards will be presented in May 2003.

These awards offer creative and financial opportunities in two categories: pedagogical ped·a·gog·ic   also ped·a·gog·i·cal
adj.
1. Of, relating to, or characteristic of pedagogy.

2. Characterized by pedantic formality: a haughty, pedagogic manner.
 keyboard compositions, open to unpublished composers in grades 7 through age 25; and a scholarship award for graduate-level study in piano pedagogy, with no age limits.

The pedagogical composition competition presents three awards, ranging from $500 to $1,500, and the chair endeavors to place the winning composition under formal publications contracts. The deadline for materials submission is March 1, 2003. The scholarship award offers a cash prize of $5,000. The deadline for materials submission is January 1, 2003.
