Recent highly publicized instances of lost or stolen computer data on tapes and other media have highlighted the need for secure protection of data created, stored and distributed. FIS produces approximately 3,000 CDs per month, containing sensitive and confidential customer data. FIS saw the need to provide security for its CD-based data in the unlikely event it were lost or stolen. FIS proactively turned to Luminex, the developer and supplier of their mainframe Data|WARE[TM] CD/DVD Production System, to implement a comprehensive security system to protect the CDs produced by the Data|WARE system. In response to the requirement, Luminex delivered the Channel Gateway 3200 that encrypts data when it is written to the CD. The encryption solution is fully automated and once configured requires no user intervention. Luminex's Channel Gateway 3200 data encryption data encryption, the process of scrambling stored or transmitted information so that it is unintelligible until it is unscrambled by the intended recipient. Historically, data encryption has been used primarily to protect diplomatic and military secrets from foreign  solution features industry-standard encryption algorithms and methodologies. The Luminex Channel Gateway 3200 provides FIS with an automated, secure and efficient solution to protect and encrypt data stored on CDs.
