Luigi Ontani.

STEDELIJK MUSEUM VOOR AKTUELLE KUNST

For his final show at SMAK SMAK - Shore Mount Accessory Kit (USMC), curator Jan Hoet (along with Eva Wittocx) presents the work of Luigi Ontani, the multifaceted dandy who emerged in the wake of arte povera with tableaux vivants in which he transformed himself into emblematic figures from myth and history. The photographic offshoots of this conceptual theater, often elaborated with watercolor or oil paint, led after 1980 to a witty and wide-ranging engagement with traditional fine-art and craft media, particularly ceramics. Comprising over one hundred works from 1967 to the present, including thirty new ones shown here for the first time, the exhibition is accompanied by an exhaustive catalogue. Oct. 12-Jan. 4. --BS
