Without the Wall in and around the city, today's Berlin is twice as big and vital. It consists of 25 districts each of them has retained its own individual personality. There are nearly four million Berliners going through the constraints and hardship of transitional period which will eventually lead them to an integrated and greater Germany in the real sense with the riches of her historical heritage. In so many social, political and cultural spheres such as architecture, painting, theater, music and literature Berlin sets the pace. Its museums are world-class, its opera and concert halls unrivaled. In every way things are booming here. With no imposed barriers there's never been a better time to discover glittering Berlin.

The airline not only provides all technical and ground engineering facility to its fleet. Other airlines also enjoy the technical expertise of the airline. Lufthansa is the only airline in the world which has its own train service known as Lufthansa Airport Express. The train has four times daily service. It links the famous cities of Dusseldort, Cologne, Bonn with Frankfurt. It is the quickest rail connection which serves as the best alternative to domestic flights. Facilities and services provided on the train are as if passengers abroad a Lufthansa plane.

In 1871 Berlin became capital of the German Reich. Its population was 2 million and raising daily, the first World War began in 1914 ending in defeat and concluding with proclamation of the first German Republic. Once Berlin experienced a renaissance. During the Roaring Twenties, it was a sophisticated, liberal and cosmopolitan city open to experimentation. It ranked as the art capital, the cultural centre of Europe. With surrender in 1945 Berlin turned into ashes, its intelligentsia eradicated or in exile. Some 50,000 Berliners fell victim to Allied air raids while another 100,000 civilians died in the battle for Berlin launched by the Soviet Red Army. In 1948, Berthold Brecht described the city in these words "Berlin, an etching by Churchil after in idea by Hitler.

Horrors of wars are still fresh in memories of Germans. A historic flashback and recent developments make one thing abundantly clear. Berlin is embedded in Europe's first and future. Berliners are a hodge-podge of old established natives and new comers from all German ethnic groups. This constant influx of new blood confronted the Berliners with all sorts of religious faiths, philosophies manners and customs forcing them early on to become adaptive and tolerant. For otherwise it never would have been possible to live together in this continental melting pot. This tolerance expressed in an old saying "live and let live" is still today a typical Berlin characteristic. There is no such word as "Non-native" in the Berlin vocabulary and a stranger in Berlin never feels strange. One third of greater Berlin consists of lakes and rivers, woods, fields and meadows. Dismantling of the Berlin Wall was the historic event of the contemporary history which scored a direct hit on the conscience of the world. Since them refugees, immigrants and asylum seekers are flooding into the former western part.

West Berliners are quite upset with this situation. "They have created lot of problems for us such as unemployment, price hike, increase in prostitution", said a West Berliner Taxi Driver whose business has been financial affected by the inlfux of Taxi Drivers from the former East Berlin. It was just a period of four decades which had divided one nation into two, absolutely different, cultural groups. Germans living in former Western part find it difficult to harmonise themselves with the people of Socialist ideology. However, they are, at the same time confident that after passing this transitional period they will over come the constraints.

In East Berlin architecture is quite different than the West. Builders are being demolished in order to modernise the city and to bring it at par with the new Western patterns, style and fashion. In this re-building process the monuments of the founders of Socialism will also be replaced.
